If it has the new Utrip sticker then it’s good. My Freak+ is good, cuz its new, but you’d better check.
March 3, 2014 at 12:20 pm #1393389My buddies said it was over a $300 bat new. I don’t know if that is “Expensive” or not for bats.
So i got a great deal on it at the time. I’ve gotten my use out of it either way. Lots of hits on that bat.
PB2Posts: 329March 3, 2014 at 2:38 pm #1393413Yep looks like they’re going for cheap. I would imagine they were more when the model was new, but i obviously don’t know much about bats. Thanks for help.
March 3, 2014 at 6:44 pm #1393483So I picked up a demarini juggernaut today. 34/28
Does this need to be broke in, and how to do that properly?
PB2Posts: 329March 4, 2014 at 3:31 am #1393513I know people that’ll paid over 300 for their NXTs when they came out
March 4, 2014 at 6:05 am #1393538Break it in by breaking balls during games, they have so many swings and then…. On a funny note, I knew a guy who carried a big cooler around and kept his bats on ice… because they would have more “pop” when cold….
March 4, 2014 at 8:10 am #1393574Right on, i looked at their website this morning and found no instruction other than to rotate the bat after each hit to avoid ‘flattening’.
March 4, 2014 at 9:37 am #1393618The Juggernaut is a really good bat, but they do take a little longer to break in at least in my experience. What we did when a guy on our team bought the Jugg was we all took bp with it before the game. So figure about 10-15 swings per guy at 10 guys that’s over a hundred pops. It was pretty cool to see all of the big guys swing early in the bp session trying to show off by hitting bombs with a new “dead” bat and none could. Then after bp and the game the ball was flying out of the park for those same guys. All that said each bat “acts” a little differently, with my salvo it was hot out of the wrapper, fourth swing was a hr. DeMarini’s do tend to be a little cold out of the plastic but still a little bp and you should be set with a great bat.
March 4, 2014 at 10:56 am #1393654Good to know. We usually have a few practice sessions before the first game…But that depends on the year. Last year the first game got cancelled due to 18″ of snow
jchoatePosts: 4March 4, 2014 at 5:35 pm #1393787I play both Asa and Utrip and the hottest new bat we have come across this year is the demarini one. That is the name of it. Also have the z2000 and z3000 but the demarini one is hotter than both of the z’s.
Also to break the bats in you can use a rubber mallet just keep rotating the bat as you are hitting it. Hope this helpsPB2Posts: 329March 4, 2014 at 5:40 pm #1393791Quote:

That is an advanced break in technique and illegal.
March 5, 2014 at 6:32 am #1393866Rubber mallet voids warranty…Don’t know how anyone could tell it a rubber mallet was used on the bat, but it shouldn’t be a problem getting it broke in by hitting balls. If it isn’t ready by game 1, i’m not too worried. Can just slap base hits

you are fine. you play asa. most asa’s except for a few are grandfathered in. that freak nxt is a good stick.

an older j3 or a newer one? (new ones are gold and white) if so its pretty much one of the stupidest hot asa bats on the market. i don’t like handle flex otherwise it would be my stick.

Rubber mallet voids warranty…
Just put a softball on a mallet handle and whack away!hndPosts: 1579March 5, 2014 at 9:41 am #1393977high end bats today require very little break in. they are designed to fall apart if tampered with. altering is a slippery slope. having too much tape on the bat is altering by some associations. pre accelerated break in, when bats needed 1000 hits or so to get hot (freak 98’s, Easton CNT’s) i would hit blue dots into a matress in the garage off a tee to break in a bat. basically the same thing a mallet would do. but my method was technically “legal”.
today’s bats, take the wrapper off, hit a bucket of balls and it should be good to go.
do not waste your Jugg on batting practice. you’ll be sending it for a return before the year is out if you play in more than one league and any tournaments. also, i’ve seen more demarini’s fail tourney testing than any other brand in the past year.
PB2Posts: 329March 5, 2014 at 9:50 am #1393981I thought I was the only guy left that had actual blue dots in near perfect condition In the garage.
We used to chill our softBalls in a cooler before they made that illegal too
March 5, 2014 at 9:57 am #1393985It’s the Black/White one.

So how many swings should you get out of a $300 bat?
I play in two leagues, 4 if you count summer/fall ball. Minimal tournaments. I always use my bats for BP.
Can’t imagine how many hits and home runs are on my Freak bat.
PB2Posts: 329March 5, 2014 at 10:00 am #1393986I have heard as low as three or four swings on some of these bats in the spring.

ahh the new new one. shouldn’t take long. like i said a bucket of balls and you’ll be good. you’ll start getting tracking cracks within 2-300 swings. i’d be surprised if it lasted more than a 1000. thats what the warranty is for. of course if you don’t hit hard or you hit REAL hard, its different.

Wow that’s terrible.
I figured the extra cost brought longevity.
Looks like this bat is more for someone who can’t hit and needs the boost and is willing to pay for it, vs me, who just figured that i would have a long lasting bat that maintained good pop too.Couldn’t have asked more out of the freak i’ve got. That has over 1000 game balls on it easy and probably 10x that or more in practice.
I thought i was buying the same kind of quality here. This is disappointing. Guess i’ve spent money on dumber stuff so i don’t feel too bad.PB2Posts: 329March 5, 2014 at 11:29 am #1394022Nope the new bats and 52 300 ball level the field vs your freak which wouldn’t have a chance of passing any compression test and gives you a decided advantage.
hndPosts: 1579March 5, 2014 at 11:34 am #1394029its about pushing the limits of performance today and marketing. everyone wants a bat hot out of the wrapper, yet they also want less cheating. 5 years ago, people got tired of buying a bat and having to beat the crap out of it with whatever to get it to perform at any level worth bragging about. so they started shaving and rolling them.
if you guys change to the 52/300 ball the bat will last alot longer. j3’s on 44/375’s didn’t last worth crap a good buddy’s lasted about 500 swings. and didn’t pass compression tests for asa state like 200 swings in.
March 5, 2014 at 12:47 pm #1394069It’ll be about 50/50 games using 44 core vs 52 unless mankato goes to 52 core which i really hope they dont. Not a fan of the mush ball…and I am a pitcher.
PB2Posts: 329March 5, 2014 at 1:48 pm #1394094Its not a mushball and you won’t be playing in any real tournaments or national tournaments with a 44….. shocked any league could still be using a 44 I was a player I’d be pissed cuz I’m not wrecking my new bat on some 44 ball
Now we have home run hitters hitting home runs and all the skinny [censored] fly by night cheaters not hitting home runs.
