Drove by knife lake yesterday. Looks like those boys have a huge challenge getting the houses off the lake.

I know if I don’t ever get another snow machine stuck again it will be too soon. My old body is hurting today. 3+ foot of snow in most areas we tried to travel.

I’ve got 5 foot drifts in my yard, 3 foot drifts on my roof, I can’t imagine what it like out on the lake around the fish houses. Wilderness warmth has been pulling houses all night. Jerry Brandt, as of Saturday, had 150 houses left to pull. We got snow!

We were on Knife last weekend and you couldn’t travel off the roads very far in a truck and that was before the snow.

My brother and I are resigned to stay off the lakes until it gets warm and we can leave the shelters behind. The problem is, I imagine once these lakes start to thaw it is going to get messy.

I talked with a guy on the ‘Croix this morning, said he paid $200 to get a guy to come out and bust a road to his shack so he can start chipping it out. I’m already seeing signs of slush on the ice where they’ve plowed. This new snow must be pretty heavy. jerr

I feel for anyone with a house still on the lake this year. Hope it goes well for you. Think I would be getting on them now and hoping it was before the water comes up on the ice.

We were on Prior Lake Sunday and watched a guy plowing a road to his house. It took him 3 hours to make it 1/4 mile. There was one plow truck and another truck to pull him out everytime he got stuck.

Anyone surprised they haven’t extended the deadline or is the prevailing thought it is only going to get worse?

I think in some ways it will get worse. Historically, when it snows in March, you get the heavy wet crap. With the tons of weight yet to come, there will be a lot more slush on top of the ice. Dang hard to tow anything in slush

Yeah, that’s kind of what I was thinking. I’ve heard ome places are already getting slushy despite the cold because the snow is so heavy. And it isn’t like the snow that is there now is going to blow off or evaporate, if anything it is just going to “cement up” more.

We created our own problem this weekend. Fished deep snow in the morning and figured the area out. Went back that afternoon and it was flooded under the snow. Game over. Found out by driving a sled straight into it..
we ruined a large area by drilling holes.

I did the same deal. Found fish on Friday night, went back Saturday and basically sank the sled to the bottom of a slush trap I created with the previous days holes. It was not pretty. I’m sure I used up my limit of profanity for 2014 already..

There’s real life examples of why it cannot be extended. Maybe the silver lining is a lot of Minnesota lakes get some artificial cribs this year.

    Pun, sort of intended.

What you will have is chunks of wood broken off of these houses floating after ice out. Every year there is wood and garbage all over the lakes that have the highest concentration of fish houses.

Lazy slobs is the term that comes to mind.

Big difference in getting a wheel house off versus a big skid house.

For some reason, that video reminded me of the old Night Driver video game.
