I never thought I’d see the day that Mr. Holst would be in the boat using minnows over plastic. I do understand why.

    Good show

I can’t tell you how much I hate fishing jig and minnow. I’ll do anything to avoid it EXCEPT not catch fish.

I started the day fishing nothing but plastics as you’ll notice in the first segment and QB was the only guy catching fish. I tried all the usual suspects… moxies, paddletails and a number of Trigger X baits and the fish were having none of it.

I was bummed that I forgot all my bucktails. With the temps at 32.5′ the water temps were perfect for that presentation. That’s a mistake I won’t make again.

The weather out there was amazing. I just wish we would have been able to put a better bite together. We only had the one day to fish on a new to us body of water, swung for the fences and basically hit a dribbler down the third base line.

The time out there in the sun did do wonders for us mentally as we were all feeling very beat down but the endless string of cold temps. We’re gearing up to head out today on an ice fishing shoot for next week’s show and I’m excited about it for the first time in… quite some time.

When we get the next round of warm weather we’re going to head back out to the Missouri to see if we can’t get on a better bite. We certainly didn’t do that body of water justice this last time out that’s for sure.

Nice twist James. Was fully expecting to see the boat getting put in at Everts for this show. Had me staring at the back ground wondering where the heck are those guys at. Good show.

Loved the show. I think it helped all of us ‘mentally’ just a little bit. Thanks.

We’ll be doing a Pool 4 show at some point but I wanted to find warm weather and that Chamberlain area had the river back here at home by about 25 degrees. First time I’ve ever picked a fishing destination solely on day time high temps.

James when you were talking fishing open water earlier I was wondering if you might show up on Francis Case. This is the second time this year you sneaked into the area to fish my home waters. LOL, You should contact me next time you come this way. The temperature was actually 65 the day you fished and Chamberlain was the warmest spot in the state. Certainly no where near that warm today.

Great show james. It motivated me! I spent the day putting new line on and re doing my leadcore rods.
I will be up on Rainy River the last week of March, unless Mother Nature won’t have it. In that case I will settle for a couple days on pool 4.

We apologize for the delay everyone. We’d go into detail but suffice it to say it involves a crazy combination of travel, new employees, sick kids and lack of sleep. James tried posting it from the road yesterday using his cell phone on top of the tallest hill available trying to get enough signal to make it all happen but in the end it was not meant to be.

Video Details: Season 8 – Episode 13. Ice Fishing. James Holst and In-Depth Outdoors Pro Staffer Quintin Biermann search out open water and warmer weather on the Missouri River near the Big Bend dam upstream from Chamberlain, SD in this installment. The walleye bite is slow while the daytime temps sore to 54 degrees providing welcome relief from the frigid temps experienced winter – 2014!

Don’t forget to set those DVRs or tune in next Sunday at 8AM on FSN to catch the show!

I’m ready to get onto Francis Case, the last week of April first week of May can be some of the finest fishing. I would have been fishing with the blue jig, that’s just me though. Great show!
