Surley furious

I heard that it is a really good beer, so I bought a 4 pack of it to give it a try. All I can say that stuff was hopefully skunked, because that beer is the nastiest beer I have ever tried. I dumped it out after maybe choking down maybe a quarter of it. Gave a couple to guests and they couldn’t finish them either. Anyone drink that stuff?

No that was the first. Most likely the last. The flavor at the start wasn’t great, but the after taste was horrendous.

Its a hoppy bitter beer. I can drink it once in a while, that’s about it. Its a very trendy beer. I am not saying that it isn’t, but a lot of people drink it just because.

Love Surley beer, especially Furious, but I enjoy hoppy beers. Its not for everyone no big deal.

I’ve had the Surly Abrasive and Furious and like pug says they are very hoppy. I can only have one and done. It’s one of those beers meant for sitting down sipping and relaxing with, not pounding down and polishing off a 12 pack. I definitely don’t go out of my way for it but on the occasion when I’m in the mood I will pick up a 4 pack. It’s not for everyone especially if you prefer the light beers.

I don’t drink beer much anymore. When I do drink beer, I prefer Heineken or Hacker Pschorr Weiss, so I’m not a light beer person. I do prefer a beer with some flavor, but I guess not that flavor. I’m glad to know that the surley tasted like is was supposed too, and and it is definitely not my thing.

My beer of choice is regular Michelob, not Mich golden draft just the regular Mich and it’s getting harder and harder to find. I’ll have a black and tan once in awhile but that’s about as extravagant as I get. Honey Weiss is number two on my list.

Heineken is only edible if almost frozen- then its ok. Otherwise it smells like urine.

I love it, but I love hoppy beers, too. One or two is enough, though. It’s not a session beer!

Fosters. Australian for beer. My choice. Liq Store has been out of it for a more than a week… so tonight I drove an extra 8 miles to another store to get it.

Premos are delicious, but usually more than a 6 pack makes for not a great morning. The Furious is one of the craziest beers to hit my pallete. So many things going on with that one it too drove me away, got through half and gave away the rest.

A guy who regularly drinks American macro brew lights who then drinks a Surly Furious is like trying to jog a marathon because you don’t mind running out to get the mail.

People need to work up to that type of beer.

It is my #3 beer to drink. Palate Wrecker is my #1. A good old Bells Two Hearted is #2.

I’ve had all kinds of beers, lager, stout, pilsner, ales, hoppy beers, wheatbeers, yadda yadda yadda. Surley Furious is by far the worst tasting liquid claiming to be a beer I’ve ever tried. The orange/citrus flavor was so strong I thought I was served something else.

PBR, Guinness, Old Style, Grolsch, Nordeast. When in Wisconsin it seems like Old Mill is everyones favorite so I drink it there. Had a stout in Ireland called Beamish and it is delicious! Googled it and can’t get it in the states, damn! I am not a big fan of hoppy beers. My brother loves them and also loves IPAs and most kinds of Surly.

Furious isn’t a bad beer. If it’s the only IPA on tap, I’ll have that. IPAs are my favorite type of beer. As said before, you have to ease into them. Start of with brown ales or red ales. After a while, you start to taste the different types of hops. It seems most IPAs don’t balance theirhops with malt or sweeteners making them super bitter and no balance.

If you can get your hands in some, try Bells Hopslam. It’s the perfectly balanced double IPA. Tastes almost more like honey sweetened grapefruit juice than beer.

There’s a new little brewery from Verona Wi. called Wisconsin brewery. I’ve tried their Wisconsin IPA an thought it was quite tasty. I think the brewmaster branched out from capital brewery. I like Beer, not any of that honey sweetened grapefruit juice swill. Just my 2 cents.

This thread is making me thirsty..and it’s only 8am.

Maybe it is because I drink all 4 in a night, maybe that’s my problem. I will be drinking some in the spring. Spring is the time of year I enjoy hoppy beers. Poured into a glass and drank while sitting outside at the patio table. *sigh*

I think I prefer Belgian IPAs or maybe I just got an IPA I liked one time. It was hoppy, but still very smooth and not very bitter. The problem with micro brews is I can never remember the ones I like. The other problem is there are not a lot of good stores that carry a large selection of microbrews, or at least I haven’t found one yet.

Ryan, can you point me in the right direction?

It’s still cold out, I’m sticking to Nut Brown Ales and Porters.
