Went to Wal-Mart the other day to pick up a new ATV battery and looked inside the box – to make sure it would fit – Hmmmm..

The battery in the box was used and not even the same brand as the box. Looked at two more – and the same thing….

I wonder what these battery companies are thinking…Putting used batteries in the new box. I have heard about recycling…but this is crazy.

    Silly.

    Grouse,

I doubt it was the battery company.

Less then stand up people will buy something they need from walmart, take it home and then return the box with the contents in side with some reason for returning it.

If the return person doesn’t look carefully you end up with a used…dead battery or whatever.

    Been going on for years.

Not quite the same surprise you had but I bought a supposed brand new, in the box Minn Kota Traxxis transom mount trolling motor from Cabelas a few years back only to find it was a used unit when I opened the box after I got home.
Cabelas had no clue how it happened. They made things right by me in the end which is all that matters to me but how does stuff like this happen ?

    BK –

    Are you kidding me?

That is very clever. So, if I go to the food department and buy a bunch of bananas – I can bring back the peels and they will give me my money back?

So you want the return policy changed so honest people can’t take back anything that really fails??? It is not Wal-Mart it is the scum making the return that hurts us all. But you already knew that

I know – it is sad that the clerk handling the returns doesn’t know enough to open the box and see if the returned item is as represented.

Actually pathetic. But again, it is the new American Dream. Have your cake and eat it too….just as long as someone else is paying for it.

Yup, seen that with many things at Wal-MART and other stores.

Especially with Fishing Line, except they change spools between new boxes. Noticed this first at Wal-MART in St. Cloud 10-years ago. Picked a box FireLine original grey, but in box was Trilene mono.

    Unscrupulous people, and they BREED!

We knew a woman a few years ago that would buy some nice clothes for a special event, then return them after the event. Also knew a guy that bought a bunch of clothes for an out west elk hunting trip. You guessed it, returned them all back to Cabela’s when the hunt was over. I don’t know how they can live with themselves. If someone did that to them It’d be a whole different story.

    It just hit me.

About 10 years ago I bought a $1000. Cannon camera. I used it for a few days taking very good care of it, then felt that I didn’t need a camera that cost a grand.

I returned it and the manager and cashier gave me some pretty dirty looks.

    Now I know why.

This is a big reason Cabela’s changed their return policy a while back. People were loading up (at Cabela’s) in Owatonna or Grand Forks and buying all kinds of camping and fishing or hunting Equipment. Went up for a week, and on the way home returned everything! That about made me throw up when I heard this.
If you’ve noticed, since the policy change, there ‘Bargain Cave’ has gotten considerably smaller over the last several years….

i hate the people that swap out cheap classic ammo for the premium ammo or even diff caliber could be very dangerous. i have even seen premium slug boxes with bird shot and buck shot swapped in them.

Maybe if we made it a felony…oh wait, have a fraud criminal code. Maybe we should enforce it.

I’d really love to spend a day in the head of someone who would do something like that. Talk about boosting your self esteem.

I’ve seen that too. I was there a few years ago and noticed a box of seaguar fluorocarbon (marked $29.99) looked like it had been opened (the seal on the back was busted). So just for the heck of it I opened it up. Was a spool of spiderwire EZ mono in it (marked $3.99 on the wall).

Then, just last year there was a guy that was… how should I put it… not looking too honest? Anyways, he was fishing down at the river for white bass and was talking with the guy I was fishing with. He showed him his pflueger president spinning combo ($79.99) and said he didn’t want to pay “fking 80 bucks for a fishing pole at walmart” so he switched the price tag from a $9.99 zebco. He really did not see anything wrong with that, figured he could just pay what he wanted and someone else would take the hit.

Never crossed my mind people would do that with ammo, don’t know why though.

back in high school, many moons ago my girlfriends brother showed up at their house with like a $50 tennis racket. Said he paid $20 for it. So the next night we went to the city and I wanted the sale price, except it was over.? I told him the sale was over, he said there is no sale, I asked how did you get the racket? He walked over, swapped covers and said there you go and he walked off. I put it all back and we left. I still shake my head at the whole deal.

I’ve seen people return lawnmowers at the end of season. They got it in the spring, but in the fall they didn’t like it any longer.

I worked in a major sporting goods store in Milwaukee.. a Famous, ( but not in sports ) TV personality came in.. He wanted a top of the line deer rifle.. ( in the $500 range, in the 1970’s) but wanted to “rent it”.. why should I have to pay full price for a gun I only use 9 days a year, was the quote.. from this locally famous tv news announcer.. still wearing HIS CHANNEL 6 JACKET.. and makeup..

A lady I know that works at Marshalls said they see it all the time. Management said they cannot say anything or reject the return as they “Do not want to anger and lose a customer”
