just a heads up, they are rolling out an update to the Navionics app on phones.I am downloading it right now. It adds new features that you can buy in app. I am most excited for the feature that let you highlight shallow areas. Because sometimes it is hard to differentiate the depths and what depth they actually are.

Whoops, wrong section. Please move to general.

Many developers do a staggered release to certain handsets. So why didn’t you let us know a week ago?

So for $3.99 (I think that was the price) I got the ability to shade up to a certain depth. Also in in Fishing Mode you can shad a range of depths (min 10′) which is also another nice feature. So I could enter a range of 10-15′ and those areas are shaded lighter on the map. Very helpful.

A new free feature is something called Easy View which makes the depth labels bigger, which is nice.

Mine already does that. Called safety depth. I have it set to 6 feet and everything up to 2′ is a dark blue and then out to 6′ is a light blue.

When I troll crappies on the 11-12′ break I set it to 10′ and know to stay right on the outside of the blue. Oops, you didn’t hear that.. you can’t catch crappies trolling.

Since it is my thread, I can hijack it right? Who am I kidding, if I can hijack others, I certainly can hijack my own.

On my brothers lake in Central Minnesota, in the summer you can troll for crappies using jigs. In fact, it is one of the most productive method once they are don spawning and the water temps get warm. In fact, it is probably the best tactic for bigger crappies, the little ones just aren’t aggressive or fast enough.

I’ve always had the shallow water alarm, but never noticed the shading. Is that an Android Kevin (asked the guy in the Navionics Android thread)?

    Yes, galaxy s3.

We troll them with 3 way rigs. 1-2′ dropper with a 1/4oz bell sinker and a 2-3′ leader with a floating jig head and a fathead. The little crappies don’t mess with it, you are right!

In the summer the crappies seem to split, the smaller and some of the bigger go to the docks and trees for shade and the mostly bigger ones go out deep and hang down by the bottom. Easy way to pick up your MN limit of 12″+ crappies in a half day of trolling. Oh and walleye and pike have no trouble latching on to that minnow as well, always a few bonus fish.

Thanks for the info! I did my weekly app update check yesterday and it wasn’t listed. Just downloaded and working sweet, those new functions are awesome!
