Legal or not this is just plain a bad idea! First off A loaded hand gun on the dash would be so not safe its not even funny! Second like others have said you would just be asking for trouble, I do not believe in open carry in populated places, IMO it just gives all responsible C&C holders a bad name. People who do not own guns get very nervous when they see someone who open carries, that is why in public I will only carry concealed. Tell you buddy to save himself a whole lot of trouble and get himself a C&C permit and for carrying in the car he could get something like in the pic.

Get a permit and put it on your hip. The only safe carry is on your person and in a good quality holster.

I can’t think of one good reason why anyone would want to advertise that they have a gun in their vehicle or are carrying a gun. Very good way to have a LEO stick a gun in your face or even worse, have a couple people decide that they need and want your gun more that you and take it away from you.

Only thing I wonder is why is the 2nd Amendment the only one you need a permit for?

Why do you need a loaded handgun in your vehicle? If it’s for personal protection I’d be looking for a different neighborhood soon. If it’s not for personal protection it’s an invitation for questions and avoidable trouble imo.

Pete, I live in a (what’s considered to be) a low crime area.

Due to an officer being shot, a high speed chase and a crash then the felon running, I strongly believe I was within 10 seconds of a life changing experience.

Sometimes trouble comes to you. Know what I’m saying?

There are so many different situations and reasons and usually has very little to do with where a person lives. I carried one because of some very sketchy neighborhoods that my job would take me too on occasion. Never fired it but pulled it twice and one of those may have saved my life.

I refuse to live in a bubble because some thug is around. My human instinct is to protect myself and my family. This unwilling victim will be prepared and fight back

Fair enough. In no way am I against guns or carrying them. I simply have not encountered what I felt was a dangerous situation. But have always lived in rural areas too except for 1 year in Lakeville (1978) and Rochester 1981-85 and both were different then.

Not sure how I’d handle danger if I was loaded for bear either so just better for me to hang out in the boonies.

We have so many law enforcement here with city and county law enforcement, highway patrol, border patrol, customs agents, park rangers and co’s that it’s not a great environment for folks who are looking to cause trouble. Has to be about the highest per capita in the state!

Most law enforcement would agree and I do appreciate the job they do, but… they are minutes away, when seconds count.
