    Just a heads up here

Tis the season of burst piping.
With the warm weather approaching, there will be many pipes that are currently frozen, thawing out and bursting.

One of the main culprits are your outside water spigots, or hose connections. These seemingly simple areas are a large concern when they burst and flood your basements. Each water supply to your outside lawn faucets should have a shutoff valve in your homes. I would recommend that if you have a shutoff valve in your home and did not shut them off before winter it is worth your time to check them now before this warm spell thaws them out.

Come the end of March, into April and May I sell a ton of lawn faucet repairs. Would guess its going to be a bumper crop this spring.

Shut mine off in the fall. I remember dad used to do that. At the old house I never bothered, but since I know who I am renting from now and he nagged me about it, I shut them off.

I remember the first year I shut mine off. They were old gate valves, and of course, they were shot. We replaces with new ball valves…much nicer.

Iron River WI told it’s residents today they could stop running water. They had a few frozen pipes start flowing again.

Last week I took my water temperature from the faucet furthest away from the pipe entrance.

    It dropped to 36 degrees.

This morning there was some digging finishing up about a block away from us. Lots of standing frozen water around the filled in hole.

I’m guessing a water line broke as the frost started to come out of the ground(?)

I’m amazed that we haven’t flooded out the neighbors yard since our water has been running since January and will continue running until the all clear is given.

Will the winter of 2014 ever go away?

Rest assured; If nothing else, winter of 2014 will go away when winter of 2015 arrives.
