I agree with grouse 100 percent.

I’m guessing there’s a zero percent chance that the pros won’t be playing in the Olympics.
It’s once every 4 freaking years get over it.

And injuries? Ghetto would be more likely to be injured if they didn’t play in the Olympics.

I’m trying to have interest but without cable that isn’t possible. I can’t believe they couldn’t show the game against Russia this morning, is interest that low? It must be. Figure skating has been on in primetime every day. Very frustrating, the B-Squad Today Show cast is eating pickled bamboo. Fascinating…

Yeah it is odd that they choose the today show over this. I expect the medal games to be on NBC, if it doesn’t butt up against figure skating.

Russia is getting jobbed on their home ice. That rule is dumb. The net was off the moorings by an inch if that.

Its not about whether or not I’d like to watch Olympic hockey, I have no choice.

As for shootouts? Yes, they still suck. Like settling a tie in a fishing tournament with a boat race.

Pug – change doesn’t always happen in ways we see as positive.

I grew up on NHL hockey was regulated by the players “code.” Good book if you haven’t read it. Now look at the NHL. what happened from my perspective…

WCHA – WTF? Destroyed the best hockey league in the WORLD. period.

Olympics allowing paid aka pro ego’s??? Nope, another disaster.

The good news? I have choices to turn it off or change channels…

What next? Wild miss a run at Lord Stanley in game 7 shoot out? Change is rough, lol…

I wasn’t refering to you it was more of general statement.

Your shootout to fishing analogy, obviously is pretty darn weak tho.

    Go USA!

Ok, its like settling a tie baseball game with a home run derby. A football game with a one on one passing drill. A basketball game with a free throw competition.

Where does this come from? What egos? Ovie, sure. But labeling all nhlers the same as him is pretty outrageous. Seems like a statement born from jealousy.

Unknown and unpaid college & minor league players simply provided a better Olympic venue for me. Your mileage may differ. That simple, no conspiracy theory….

I think Ovie might have an ego, but I also don’t think he is arrogant or a jerk. He likes to have fun.

    Crosby on the other hand…
I know it is his ultra competitiveness, but to me he comes off as a baby with a big ego.

Exactly, egos manifest themselves in different ways. Some are tolerable and others…

Problem was that it was only the USA and a few other countries who were hamstrung by their own internal rules such that we were using these unknowns and unpaids.

This “no pros” is just wishful fantasy.

Everyone else was dipping into their home professional leagues, who were all too happy to put their season on hold for the Olympics. Also, many of these players were essentially on the government payroll.

Let’s be clear, by NOT allowing NHL players to play, the USA and Canada will be the ONLY major hockey countries out there NOT using professional players. Germany, Sweden, Finland, Austria, the CR, and Russia all have domestic leagues that have and will send pros to the Olympics.

You won’t see the best college players in the Olympics because the NCAA won’t stop all play for 3 weeks and won’t budge on eligibility requirements.

Germany, Sweden, Finland, Austria, the CR, and Russia all have their best players playing in the NHL and those players wouldn’t be able to play in the Olympics if the NHL decides against allowing them to play.

From a quick review of the powerhouse rosters the main teams would suffer greatly if NHL owners said nope & NHL union agreed. Would make for more dramatic upsets by lesser known hockey countries. But the again the Olympics is following the almighty dollar like most of the entertainment world so might as well sit back and grab a cold beverage and dream about open water walleye chasing….
