Lost My Best Hunting Buddy

I lost my best hunting buddy Last Friday. Cosmo was 9 years old. Over the last 9 seasons we hunted together around 290 times and my friends and family hunted with him too. Cosmo retreived approximately 990 geese, 8 pheasants and 1,200 ducks. I still can’t believe how many 300 yard plus goose retreives he helped me out with or the times he broke from his blind to flank short landed geese to herd them over our heads to shoot at. He was half black lab and half border collie. I believe they are called a Borador. He died on his own quickly and quitly. He deserved that. As hard as it is to say, I still want to duck hunt this fall and am looking for another dog. If anybody has any info Please PM Me. Dogs Give so much without asking much in return. I did the best I could. I hope it was good enough for him because I sure as hell know he did his part. I will love him forever. His first Goose, First Duck Retrieve and His Last Goose Dec 28, 2013.

you can see in his retrieves that he is proud and wanting to do good in his masters eyes, a pat on the head and a good boy is all they want in return. Looks like his favorite thing to do was to hunt with his master and that’s what you did. Those types of friends will never be replaced, memories last forever. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Sounds like he had the retrieving instincts from the Lab and herding instincts from the border collie half. The good one’s always seem to leave us too soon. My GSP is 7 already, excellent bird dog and family member. Don’t even want to entertain a thought of losing her.

He looks quite proud and happy to be your hunting buddy. I’m sorry for your loss, but at least it was quick and quiet. And his memories will last a lifetime.

Very sorry for your loss, I have a border collie/mystery mix at home as well. Looks like cosmo had as good a life as any retriever could wish for.
