In the ice shack this weekend talking to a few union guys and was astounded that they said it was OSHA mandated that during certain times, cant remember the details , but they are required to have warmers on their biffs. In my 12 years of residential contracting, I have never sat my butt down in a heated port a potty, and seeing there are many other construction guys on here, has anyone else heard of this? or had the luxury of a heated biff themselves? Blew my mind on the idea!

I don’t know if its an OSHA thing but I work commercial construction, non union, and all of our biffs have heaters.

It is not OSHA mandated but most portable toilet companies required it in the winter months. When the buffs are not heated the contents of it freezes making cleaning much more difficult.
Even when heated the biffs are plenty cold this time of year.

Back in a day, before there was an OSHA we just brought out toilet seats in the house.

Kept it next to the newspaper.

I m out of IBEW local 110 rule say it has to have a heater in the biff but there is nothing in there saying it has to be turned on

We always have heaters in the biff in the winter. Believe it or not, by putting the 100 grit paper in front of the heater for a while makes it feel more like 80 grit when its cold out

I finished an OSHA 30 class this fall, and we wanted to look this rule up as well. It actually is a Minnesota statute, not a national OSHA rule. Don’t worry though, usually only half of the heaters work in the Biffys.

There is actually another statute that says all employers shall provide a heated break area too. Our employers usually say that would be the inside of our own heated trucks.

So you drop your drawers in a Kybo next to a 1,300 watt heater so that your duty may be served and what might you expect out of a 2.5 x 3.0 ft floot print?

Not the kind of toast that you had for breakfast?
