You think a lot of people think about buying a donut in those 30 seconds?
It was just a very original cheap shot at a cop.

You guys actually stand outside while the pump is running? You won’t use a new standard gas can but you follow the rules about not being in your vehicle?
Ya Deertracker, they make you prepay because of gas thefts. Not to long ago, a few years, you could pump your gas then go inside and pay for it. Now its all prepay. Back a few years ago when gas prices went through the roof people were filling up and driving off because everything was so expensive and they needed the gas to go to work. Yes Pug if you can make people hang around a store for a few minutes longer they might think a doughnut or cup of coffee might taste good. Over a period of a year they might only make a few thousand more but thats part of the reason they do it.
Its also because a gas tank burps and sometimes gas comes out of the fill tube that goes to the tank. If BP can do it in the last 15 seconds then why do the other stations do it the last 50 cents. I did see one guy fill his tank and waited for the last 50 cents to go in, then go back in and come out with a cup of coffee, so it does work. The longer they can keep you around the store the more chance they can sell you something. Atleast it worked at that store.

The feds and state really get me steamed up about this. You know, every session you don’t have to pass new laws and regulations.
Case in point
Quote:
The Obama administration will detail plans today to establish seven regional hubs tasked with helping Americans to mitigate the scourge of climate change.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is expected today to formally announce plans to establish the first climate hubs in Ames, Iowa; Durham, N.H.; Raleigh, N.C.; Fort Collins, Colo.; El Reno, Okla.; Corvallis, Ore.; and Las Cruces, N.M.
The centers, which the administration is calling “climate hubs,” will be overseen by the Department of Agriculture. They are tasked with studying fires, invasive pests, flooding and droughts and using the research to provide guidance to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners to cope with the problems.
“Climate Hubs are part of our broad commitment to developing the next generation of climate solutions, so that our agricultural leaders have the modern technologies and tools they need to adapt and succeed in the face of a changing climate,” Vilsack said in a statement.
Which begs the question, where are they money for this venture? Are they really needed?

I live in the Twin Cities and there are no mandatory pre-pay stations around the area I live. As a matter of fact I cant remember the last time I had to prepay for gas anywhere in the Midwest including MN, WI or MI.
I know there are prepay or pay at the pump stations all over. It usually is the pumps where people can make quick getaways.

Yep, there’s an SA here in WBL that’s prepay. This got me thinking, I can’t remember the last time I paid for gas inside the store. Probably save a couple hundred a year on impulse buys.

They are usually the pumps on the outside of the rows or ones that the workers are blocked from seeing the plates with binoculars. Maybe the stations in your area have good cameras, but I’ve seen many in the metro.

Of course some stations have a few mandatory pumps but you don’t have to use them.

So these are non-mandatory mandatory pre-pay pumps?

All I know is mostly I pay at the pump with card but when I need something else I pump then pay in store. I don’t know of any stations where I am forced to pay first.
There are some, but the only ones I can think of are outside pumps that are prepay after 6 pm.

Can’t you just pay with a credit card? Then the pump won’t ‘slow down’ at the end, it will just keep going until you stop it.
Till you hit that preset limit imposed by the credit card company!

Or the limit of the funds in your bank account

Some of those limits are imposed by the gas station. I use a check card and it has stopped at $75 some places, $100 at others and goes until I’m done at some. I have a Suburban.

I hear ya! I’ve got a 13 mpg Sequoia with a 26 gallon tank.
I have two 5 gal. cans and a two and a half gal. can that have a push button spouts. Never spill a drop. Pricy about 22 bucks each, but never a spill.
