    Hello all,

My name is Tyler Huerter. I had posted under this board at one time asking for suggestions on how to improve a a project I was hoping to start. Well, I’m now at the point where I have been able to start. I am currently working with a few of my friends on a project to collect used fishing equipment in the Rochester area. I will combine the donated equipment with purchased tackle boxes and tackle into fishing “starter” kits. I wish to distribute these kits to those less fortunate than I during an event (or multiple events) this Summer.

I had been looking for opportunities to volunteer more and am also attending school for Project Management. I felt that this would be a great opportunity for me to gain project experience, while giving back to my community by doing something that I enjoy. My goal is to raise fifty to a hundred kits this year. Depending on how many kits we can put together we can pair with families that are helped by Lutheran Social Services, possibly the Y mentors and Boys and Girls club, or have some loaner kits to be used when assisted living facilities take their residents fishing.

Our Facebook page is listed below:

    http://www.facebook.com/fishtalesmn

Feel free to check it out, and to provide some feedback on ways to improve the idea. Or, simply like the page. I have a sample of a fishing starter kit under photos. I was able to obtain some fishing literature through the DNR, but it has limited information that would be relevant to a beginning fisherman. If someone knows where I can find additional materials let me know.

For those of you who may not use Facebook, we have identified 5 ways in which people can help:

    1. Donate unwanted fishing equipment (children’s or adult’s) My contact # is (507)272-4635. My email address is [email protected] .

    2. Purchase a kit. I have worked with Gander Mountain to get pricing on 50+ “starter” tackle kits. These include all of the basics to get started fishing, including a tackle box for $20. We are accepting Paypal donations or a mailed check.

    3. Print our flier and hang it at your local workplace/church/organization. This can be mailed to you or I can send the flyer document and you can print from home.

    4. Volunteer your time to start a drive at your local organization, or volunteer to help if we are able to hold events (date(s) TBD).

    5. Give us your feedback and spread the word! Any and all feedback is welcomed. This is the first project of this type that I have undertaken and I would appreciate any advice you may have.

Sorry for the length of this post, and thanks for taking the time to consider. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

    Tyler,

Where are you located? I have a bunch of tackle and tackle boxes that my father had, I think this would be a great way to pass on some of his stuff. I know I will never use all of it.
