They are opposite sides of the spectrum. Gillespe
Has fun – Holst studies it and has fun.

Gillespie is the flavor flav of fishing or whatever he calls it, I’d dig Joe Bucher or Larry dahlberg and James, could throw Pete Maina in there too, one day of walleye one of skis, north country smackdown

After having encounters with many of the “celebrities” over the years, I have very little respect for the majority of them. At some point, many of their ego’s superseded reality. Too bad, as many of them started as very good fisherman and proved themselves on their way through the ranks.

James and Pete would be a good one. I’ve hung around Pete a lot at the Bass Pro events that we do, and a super knowledgeable guy. James would be the right host to pose the right questions to get a very informative show that many would learn from.

Dave Mercer would be a riot. He’s quite the personality, but has every bit of the knowledge to back things up. Dave does an outstanding job at showing details that make a difference.

As for the rest of them…. I’ve got more important things to do

You are much better off. If you were like me and looked him up after not hearing of him you are now annoyed to he77 every time you hear the name.

I’m beginning to get a picture from the responded. At first I was thinking it may be a Minnesota vs Wisconsin thing, but it wasn’t. It seems more a well versed fisherman versus people who enjoy fishing but may not be very good at it, maybe even kind of a rube. The fishing intellectuals seem to lean towards Holst to almost a point of being vehemently despiseing of Gillespie. Others who lean more nieve of fishing prowess and maybe look at fishing as a more social event seem to tolerate Gillespie more while still admiring Holst. For me I think I would like to be a little dumber and enjoy both. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
But, getting back to the original post, I would love to see these guys interact. Look at some of the most entertaining couples in history. They are mostly opposites with a common goal or agenda that provide the most entertainment. Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis, even Clinton and Bush, who would have ever dreamed of that combo. Love and peace.

How dare you forget the greatest couple to ever grace the screen: Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau! If I knew how to post a picture on the post without it being a link I would, alas I don’t know how to. If I could though it would obviously be the pic of Mathau brandishing a walleye as he is about to stab Lemmon with it in Grumpy old men.

As to the original post, just simply no. I would like to see james and jason mitchell though, both seem to be very good fishing purists and educators.

Technically I agree, but there are enough technical (dry) shows out there week in and week out. I’m looking for entertainment. Like you said, Lemmon and Matthau…but in real life entities. I want to laugh till I pi$$ my bibs.

There it is thanks, what an epic picture! Those two were flawless when they were together, god rest their souls. Upon closer inspection it appears that Matthau is wielding a perch rather than a walleye as I have always assumed, learned something new today. I digress…sorry to derail this thread, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring Grumpy old men into the conversation.

X2 Randy I could not agree more. I have know a lot of the celebs from the hunting side and the majority of them think they walk higher than the rest of us. James is a class act, very knowlegable, and always willing to share that knowledge.

Mr. Gillespie’s show is moe of a circus, he rants the names of his sponsors, Get the Frabill, etc. I personally don’t care to watch his show.

I thought that. But the more I stared at it i kept thinking its a perch I was hesitant, no tiger bars, eye looks walleye-esque (just created a new word there I believe), and mouth looks like an eye’s. My mistake should have just stuck with my gut from the start.

having worked the sport show circuit for some time, I can tell you that some of the personalities mentioned, do not have the best reputations.. and there are egos, the size of lake Winnebago that are involved as well. in fact , some of these guys, ‘bago isn’t big enough for their egos..

…Now that Youtube was funny. I hope Burgess is enjoying his “dirt nap” somewhere
