nothing against mills , I love them. My neighbor used to get thistle and sunflower seeds off the combine up there for pennys really. Only like a 6 hour drive.

I keep my whole corn in a trash can and my sunflower seeds in a giant Rubbermaid tub. I restock about once a month. Their prices are great year round, so I don’t need to stock up that much. Plus, I have a little rule. Every time I go to Fleet Farm I reward myself with a fishing lure/tackle or two or three.

I have the same reward as you but most of the time it’s more like 5 and up lures/tackle

It’s been so cold I haven’t seen a bird in the feeder in weeks.

Spin off question for you bird guys.

I don’t have many large trees so we don’t get many birds, but a few. I hung the skull of my buck in one of our trees thinking the birds would pick at it and clean it up for me. Will they do that?

If you had birds I assume they would. Its the same idea as suet, except a little lean meat thrown in.

Without cover though, its going to be hard to attract them. I don’t get nearly the same number of birds as I did back in Richfield. I might if I put feeders in the backyard, but the front has the tree where the feeder is and then just a few bushes along the house.

Once the trees get leaves back on them it will be a different story.

I kind of miss the Gold Finches and Juncos in the winter.

Ha! I bought a suet cage and it was on the ground the next day. Apparently I need to secure it better.

The squirrels really like the peanut suet too

Unlike most people with bird feeders, I don’t try and keep the tree rats away. Yeah, they go through a lot of sunflower seeds, but I compare them to monkeys, kangaroos, etc. They are fun to watch.
