Don’t forget Putin’s people get results and won’t be worried about the guys lawyer and or “rights”. Worrying about bad press and having a soft hand is something that has gotten our people killed all too often these days.

This is an interesting discussion. How does one combat terrorism? I am terrified of drunk drivers. If say your son or daughter had too much and struck and killed someone, maybe we should kill you or your whole family and burn your house down to encourage the good behavior. That doesn’t sound very fair if it hits close to home. I think an argument can be made that we have lost the war on terror. I am a military vet and I think we won all the battles but the war hasn’t been won. Nobody has surrendered. This has gone on longer than world war 1 and 2 combined. We are being bled of billions of dollars and have turned into a police state. As far as I am concerned, the whole middle east isn’t worth one of our soldiers. I say we keep flying the drones until they come to us. That is really what is bringing Iran to the table. I think they realized that even if they get a nuke we will just take them. The real thing that would end the war on terrorism is if there were some good jobs for the young people in the middle east.

This wasn’t intended to get political. I was just wondering if you would allow or want your loved one’s at Sochi.

Don’t worry. I can see Russia from my house.

I agree partially. except for the fact that some of these terrorists come from well to do families and are well educated and have every means to make a very lucrative living. Also the fallacy that if they only really knew us they wouldn’t want to kill us. Look at the 911 bombers, they were well educated, assimilated themselves into our society and still did what they did. I agree we will never win the war on terror, but I believe we can mitigate it smartly. That being through intelegence and modern warfare tactics like drones. Again, this will not stop it, but will give considerable consequence to DELIBERATE actions, unlike your drunken driver scenario which doesn’t make any sense to me. If we don’t keep them on their heels over there, then they will find ways to bring it here. Imagine having a next door neighbor who wants to kill you, and you know it. Will you wait for him to come into your house and then confront him, or will you try to get him first in a place away from your family.

I told Mrs. Grouse a few months ago that I have a bad, bad feeling about Sochi and Comrade Putin’s ability to provide security.

The fact of the matter is that Putin’s 10 year battle against North Caucaus islamic factions AND his strutting/preening, and making the Olympics a personal PR vehicle for Putin Inc. has set up a situation where an attack is almost inevetable.

In a strange reversal of fotunes, the prime target will be the RUSSIAN olympic team. That would be the ultimate humiliation for Putin, the message being he’s so weak he couldn’t even protect the home team.

Obviously, the Russians know this, so Russian athletes will be THE priority for security. That doesn’t leave me feeling good about the rest of the world’s athletes.

Putin is a classic case of “small man syndrome”, a man who’s always feeling the need to prove how tough he is. Putinist Russia is NOT the Soviet Union and Putin himself is no Stalin or Lenin. He is too weak to stop the terrorists in any substantial way.

I wouldn’t want my family anywhere near Sochi.

We don’t live in a police state. This NSA deal is a prime example totally over-hyped by the media and the people saying they “are spying on us” No they are trying their damnedest to keep us safe. Everyone cheers when the local PD connects the dots and saves the little girl yet everyone cry’s when the government plays connect the dots and saves a bus, train, mall school, small country etc. It’s too late you have NO privacy. Want a private conversation? Talk to a guy FTF and pay cash everything else is subject to pattern recognition and storage.

“Terror” will always happen. You can hunt the organizations down but you will always have new/small or single person issues you can’t get away from that.

Everyones wired different, for me there are no gaurantys, but at the end of the day I would rather end up dead after putting up my best fight, rather than roll over and give them an easy victory.

I agree with your basic message. However “big brother” is everywhere. Go downtown Mpls and start walking any direction. Let me know how many steps you take before you are on camera.

I’ll leave it to everyone to decide if that’s a good thing or bad thing.

You may be on camera but, the better question is “Does anyone see YOU?”
