It was a while ago, but we are still waiting on the dang car from the shop. Here’s the situation.

They ordered a radiator through VW. Being a 2014, we need the original parts. The body shop says VW claims that it is ordered and they are waiting to get the part…from Germany. He says that they are being evasive. They won’t give him a date. I trust the body shop guy, but Michelle is at her wits end.

What would you do in this situation? Wait it out? Call VW?

I find it hard to believe a manufacturer would build 2014 models and not do some parts runs so that there are extras for cars that need them. The car has been at the shop for 4 weeks now.

4 weeks? WAY TOO LONG IMO. Call a new shop w/ the part # and ask how long it would take to get…

Call your insurance guy and start pushing for a no charge rental car. He will get stuff happening.

A few years back I had a friend in the same situation with his wife’s Jetta, except that it was in the VW dealership’s bodyshop. Took almost three months for them to finish it. For the last two months he would call or stop by to harass them daily and would get a whole suite of excuses (couldn’t get parts, too busy, paint didn’t match…). Hope it doesn’t come to that. Take no prisoners.

We’ve been getting updates from their insurance who were 100% liable. They keep extending the rental. But she hates the car. Thankfully she works remotely 1/2 the time.

If anyone remembers, this kid, or should I say, this kids dad wanted to pay cash. LOL

Contact the dealer you purchased the car from and see what kind of “service after the sale” they can do for you. They may have some more pull for parts if there a service shop as well.

    Thanks Brian!

I called the sales lady who was on her day off. She didn’t seem too concerned and told me to call the parts department.

Is this at the dealership or a body shop? I would be at the dealership raising hell, and if they cannot get the part asap I would let them know that every person you know and every website that you frequent will know what a PITA VW is to work with and get parts for. That is totally ridiculous, can you say midnight run to remove a radiator.

VW maybe be a good vehicle but all I have ever heard is how expensive they are to repair.

My brother said he has had several instances like this over the years with both imports and domestic cars. He said if the car is at a shop other then the dealership where she bought it contact a VW dealer and have their parts guy check availability. There is a system in place called the “locator” where the shops can search other dealers nationally in case somebody has one for whatever reason. He mentioned that being a 2014 it’s going to be tough finding one. Right from Germany isn’t out of the question and not being told of a ship date is normal. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

If she hates the rental go get her a different one, tell the insurance guy (the guy that hit her) the currant one doesn’t “sit right” and she is having back problems. Bang, they will get you a different car! Mentioning a back problem to a insurance guy is like mentioning a polygraph test to a politician.

Absolutely a VW issue. I would never consider that brand for this reason alone.

A lot of nice helpful posts here. A guy has to appreciate the help. As was said I would call the dealer and ask for the parts manager and tell them your issue, and hope they can speed the process up..

As others have said, all you can do is contact a dealer and see if they can help expedite.

But I have to tell you, don’t hold your breath. Mrs Grouse had an Audi and a semi-truck decided to change lanes into a lane that was 3 feet too short and took out Mrs. Grouse’s front end.

Exact same issue. Several parts had to come from Deutschland as there was no generic equivalent and the wait took forever. We were at one of the Audi certified body shops and the dealer was working with them to try to speed up the parts, but it still took about a month as I recall. The car was not a new model or body style, so my impression was that this is pretty much normal with Audi. You bend it, you wait because Germany works at its own pace. I’ve never been so happy to leave a car on a trade-in lot.

Sorry. It’s a bummer, especially with a new car, but basically you’re stuck.

Would echo what others have said. If she doesn’t like the rental car, ask for another.

I see it all too frequently, with all manufacturers. I manage a parts department for Nissan, and we are currently waiting on a part for a 2014 model. It has been over 4 weeks, and I can’t do any more than I have (elevated the order to the highest level). If it where my car, I would find out which dealership has the part on order and contact the parts manager. Ask him if he has done all that he can to procure the part. Nobody in this bussiness wants to keep a customer waiting, and beleive me, it is very frustrating for the parts guys and the body shops alike.

Nope, the Orlando area. I told her if we move, there needs to be a lot of fresh water lakes for me to not catch fish in.
