Schools up north are open and the temps are even colder and it’s just as windy but the metro schools are closed.

Yea, that is a joke. What gets me is everything posted so far is about the kids yet not one thing has been said about what us drivers have to go through. I can tell you from first hand experience it’s never any fun to be driving when the wind is blowing so hard you can barely see in front of you to tell where the road is or you get stuck out in the middle of nowhere cause the road is so drifted over that is sucks you right in the ditch trying to plow through it with the bus. So yes, it’s not all about the kids but the superintendent and transportation supe also have to take in to consideration road conditions and visibility for their drivers also. [/quote

Suck it up cupcake! Just like the ones who walk uphill in a snowstorm both ways with no shirt on you’re not excluded toughen up that’s what shovels are 4 get out and dig as a matter of fact get all the little crumb snatchers on the bus and make them shovel 2 that’ll keep them warm

Now that’s some good sarcasm, Louis!

At least there weren’t the extended rants about the wolf population on IDO this year.

Not since the DNR has things under control now.

LOL, saw a school age girl with her mom while waiting in line at Subway. She was wearing a hoodie. I think the schools ARE protecting the kids from their parents.

Maybe we should turn this into a who’s tougher debate. City kids versus country kids. We in Gods country had school today despite the temps being colder and the winds stronger. City folk…

Country kids win. You have to deal with the possibility of being carried off by a pack of wolves.

My kids are home today. It wasnt because the school was closed, but because they couldnt find their helmets.

For the record, I think most of the time younger kids are better dressed than the big kids. Walking to class at UW today, I didn’t have enough hands to count all of the girls wearing their leggings and yoga pants (for those who are older and don’t know these terms just trust me on this) they are not warm at all to say the least and on top they wear a light north face jacket just so they can be “stylish”. I just chuckle at all of them shivering in their seats in the lecture halls. I’m nice and toasty in my carhartt and jeans.

Maybe more cancellations are in order to save the young women on northern college campuses across the U.S. to help them avoid freezing to death .

For the record… you will NOT believe this, the kids just got in off the bus. All of them are alive, no trips to the ER, no frost bite, and no frozen limbs. And a country kid can survive!!

i have a real hard time listening to how hard teachers have it because of this crap. never work a weekend, never work a summer, never work a holiday, a vacation every x-mas, numerous days off during the school year. and to top it off get paid in most school districts 30-60K per year with the same or better benefits than over half of America.

You should think before you bash those that teach your kids. Not a teacher but it’s not the gravy job you invision in your head. Yes, they get holidays off so do your kids. Yes they get weekends off. Some actually prepare for the upcoming week during this time w/ out pay. DO you ever go to your job and not get paid? Some are required to take classes on the weekend to keep their license current. Most times out of their own pocket. You make your own career choice. Twenty thirty years ago sure it may have been gravy but times and standards have changed. Go back to school and get your teaching degree. Guaranteed you don’t make it a year in the classroom.

Now that’s funny! And right on!!

Well I am a teacher and basically raising other peoples kids is no picnic.
Here is an idea for all of you who are stuck on days that school is closed. Find a nearby high school student who will sit for you on these days. Have it set up with them and have a back up student too. Call the local HS and speak with the guidance councelor they should be able to hook you up with some names. Or, work a deal with a neighbor or friend who is a stay home mom. Everyone can use extra cash. You could even try a teacher from your child’s school who might appreciate the extra bucks. The key is to be prepared and have some sitters lined up before the closing hits.

I’m glad you didn’t feel the need to defend yourself and justify your work. I spend a ton of time with educators and they all work hard. The really good ones work tirelessly. Thanks for what you do. Good ideas for those snow days.

Changed my mind. I want to vote for Al Gore and global warming.

So are they closing school Monday and Tuesday next week?

Here we go again. If it makes anyone feel better about this closure, we have drifts on the roadways bigger than vehicles in my area.

As long as we continue to dumb down our schools to the lowest common denominator, we are doomed to fail. It makes no difference if it is the slowest learner or the extreme minority who cant safely get to school.

Our country wasnt made great by making sure all keep up, it was made great by allowing individuals to excel.
