I say we trade with Houston. Peterson for Foster and the #8 for #1, which we spend on Teddy. With the signing of Norv, we are going to be a pass first offense, and Foster is much better suited for that kind of attack. Then we allow Jared to leave and spend the $$ on two new DLs. Whatcha think? On to something or on something?

Sometimes you think a big shake-up will do some good. Gosh I hope they do something to help themselves.
EW6Posts: 150January 21, 2014 at 11:07 am #1381435Why would Houston do that? I love the ridiculous trades fans always throw out there for the Twins and Vikings to make. I know, just trade all of our junk for some team’s young stud and a draft pick! Why don’t the Twins/Vikes think of that? Forget it people, Peterson is un-tradable. No one is going to trade for an aging running back with a fat salary.
January 21, 2014 at 11:22 am #1381442I am guessing SF or the Seachickens would have loved to have him… if there would be a trade of his caliber player, it would have to be a team that is on the cusp of a SB championship…. Houston fits the Vikings mold, doesn’t make sense for them at all.
January 21, 2014 at 11:24 am #1381445Wasn’t Norv the coordinator for much of Emmitt Smith’s career and also the coach when Tomlinson was the #1 back in the league? I think AP is going to flourish with Norv as the coordinator… That is as long as he can figure out a way to come up with something halfway resembling a viable passing game.
Even though he’s still probably the best back in the leage there zero change Houston wants anything to do with AP. Under the current salary cap restraints high draft picks are even more valuable because they have reasonable contracts. Any shot of moving up to get the #1 pick is going to reqiure something more along the lines of #8 this year… 1st round pick next year and probably a low priced high value proven player such as Patterson.

First, no need for the disrespectful tone…
Peterson is ONE year older than Foster. The Texans owner already expressed interest in trading down. ANY team would love to have AP…thats why they’d do it.
January 21, 2014 at 11:40 am #1381452Trade AP to Jax for #3 pick and jadaveon clowney. Let Cassel role a whole year with full camp as the #1 qb. Were better off drafting zach mettenburger in the 3rd or 4th round. Vikes dont have a good track record drafting first round qbs. We need more help on D than we need a qb. Cassel has proven he can win in this league he just needs to be in a better atmosphere than with Frazier and mustachegrave. Look how the falcon offense exploded when mustachgrave left. Mettenburger is compared to kaepernick by many scouts hes hurt right now so he won’t make the combine due to that we may get him late and that would be sweet. Bridgewater is just too much to pay. Hes going to be a high first rounder and imo we need more help at other positions. Like DE, DT, ILB we need a nickelback and another safety desperately.
January 21, 2014 at 11:52 am #1381456I think Freeman will stay as Vikes QB or at least compete with Cassel to see who will be #1. I think this years draft will weigh heavy on Defense with a aging D-line and Linebackers. Remember we have 2 pro bowl QB’s right now with Cassel and Freeman. Freeman is young, has a huge arm which Norv loves! I would like to see Freeman be our guy and draft a prodigy in the 3rd or later rounds.
January 21, 2014 at 11:54 am #1381457I like Freeman also, and we may be able to resign him for cheap. Not a bad plan!
January 21, 2014 at 12:16 pm #1381462Freeman has severe character issues which may be able to be dealt with but he’s very unreliable, innacurate and inconsistent. Thats why Tampa wouldn’t put up with him because lets face it most teams really don’t care what you’re doing off field as long as you’re lighting it up come gameday. Even freemans pro bowl campaign year I think he was only completing a little more than 50% which is not acceptable unless you’re throwing bombs all day.I hope he does get his game together. He has a big arm and can move. Hopefully he figures it out I know norv turner loves him. Otherwise I think kid from LSU will drop to the middle rounds and he will be a nice pickup for us. As for defense we have some key pieces in Greenway, Rhodes is going to be good, Cook is decent, Harrison smith is good, Robison can play but we need another de unless we somehow resign jared. Sharif floyd can play but I still dont know about guion. John Abraham is free agent so is Adrian Wilson but both those guys are up there in age and $ that would fill DE and safety though. Idk it’ll be interesting to see how they draft this year and what they do in the offseason.
bigpikePosts: 6259January 21, 2014 at 1:07 pm #1381472I don’t have a dog in this fight but looking from a distance it would appear AP is starting to break down a bit and has peaked and is starting to get to the back side of his career. Not that he doesn’t have some good years left, maybe he has the magic of a Emmit Smith and he can continue to produce at a very high level into his 30’s. Almost all backs have a 5 year window then there body’s just cant hack it anymore. AP is at this point now in my opinion. 29+ at the beginning of this season. His prime value years are behind him unless you find a team desperate for that last piece – that usually will be a mid season trade not an off season trade. Good Luck

January 21, 2014 at 1:40 pm #1381488Agreed, anybody in Houston who agreed to that trade would be fired the next day. Say good bye to the chuck & duck west coast offense. Turner, if he can find a quarterback will throw the ball down field.
Patterson , Simpson running down field with Jennings in the slot. Throw in a tight end or two and Peterson will be fine.
Need a defense and a quarterback, most other things will cure them selves after that.

Not trying to be disrespectful, just writing with a little passion! Number one picks are traded for one thing, more picks. That’s it. Even though I’m a vikings fan I am realistic and I just realize AP is getting old and everyone around the league knows it. The exact reason why you’d rather have the #1 and Foster over #8 and AP is the reason Houston would be dumb to make that trade. The #1 pick is many times more valuable than the #8. The only realistic thing Houston would trade the #1 pick for (unless someone would trade a young stud QB- and that ain’t ever going to happen) is the #8, a 2nd and 3rd rounder this year and our #1 next year.
January 21, 2014 at 5:02 pm #1381570I’ll say this would be a gigantic win if MN could pull it off, id give it one in 500 chance of happening for multiple reasons. First number one picks are hard to come by. Two its a QB league today not an RB league, you do not need a dominant RB to win in todays game ie: San Fran, Denver, New England, you do however need a QB. Finally Houston has a new coach in Bill O’Brien and I suspect that he would like to pick the QB of his future, what better to do it with than the number one pick especially if they think their guy wont be there if they trade down. I know Houston is open to trading down but I don’t see them trading all the way down to eight and missing out on Manziel, Bortles, and Bridgewater (all of which I’d guess will be gone by 8 with the demand for QB’s today) unless they have supreme confidence in a later round QB like Murray being their guy.

Finally. I’m excited for throwing downfield. Patterson is going to be very good just needs a qb to get the ball down the field. Cassel can freeman certainly can. Houston would never trade an rb for an rb. JAX desperately needs an rb but they’ll likely never trade down for AD. Thats just my dream.January 21, 2014 at 6:36 pm #1381598Hopefully we become a throwing team. Rudolph and Carlson is one of the better TE tandems in the league, Jerome Simpson is a good downfield threat so is Jennings and jarius wright in the slot then you got cordarelle and throw in a qb with a big arm and we have all the tools on offense to scare any defensive coordinator in the league. Peterson isnt going anywhere. We really need another defensive end unless we somehow resign #69 so being able to somehow trade up with jacksonville for clowney would be awesome but I’m a dreamer.
January 21, 2014 at 7:30 pm #1381612I just hope the packers’ sign Jared Allen he would look great in green and gold
January 21, 2014 at 9:16 pm #1381658I sure hope not that would be an awful waste of money for an aging high salary seeking DE that won’t be productive for long. I think Thompson’s non-existent record of going after Free agents will deter him from even considering such a foolish act.

Not to mention the problems that would arise when Matthews starts PMSing over no longer having the best hair on the team…
