I’m narrowing down my search of a builder of a custom BBQ pit. The choices around the upper Midwest are slim to none. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing a custom rig? Or, perhaps, you know someone that does this. I’m looking at something like this:

If you know exactly what you want, just find a good welder/fabricator to make it. Just watch your air flow through a tube style like that so you can control heat evenly. We had that issue and made dampers to direct flow in ours

Have you looked at Lyfe Tyme smokers? They are expensive but very well built and they have some dealers in the midwest. I think they are out of Texas. I see them come up for sale once in a while on CL.

I have. Good product. Typically I can get a custom one built cheaper.

Is there an advantage to making it round instead of square? When I priced out making my own the biggest part was the large round tube and the minimum that I had to order. Would a rectangular box work as good?

Air circulates more evenly with the round top. That was a huge mistake we made when we built one out.of a.hospital serving cabinet. Big enough for a whole pig plus, but had cold spots because of square corners. Had to weld in dampers.to increase the flow

hmmm, maybe have to try a hexagon shaped one, unless I can find steel tube somewhere.

Pipe works. Some people use propane tanks.

Be sure they are empty before you put the cutting torch to it!

Some people do a rinse and then hook it up to car exhaust while cutting it.
