since the passing of the polar vortex, I have fished my usual and unusual crappie and bluegill spots and caught nothing but one four inch walleye and a 6inch perch, has the rain I got (inch and a half) over the past 48 hours thrown them in a funk? is it slow for the rest of you guys?

The melt caused us to lose our snow off the ice in most places, I fished yesterday and could not even find the fish. Before the warm up it was nothing for me to catch 50-60 bluegills and 20-40 crappies in a couple hours. Sat I couldn’t even MARK a fish!

Today I found a few fish, and the key was to go to a shaded spot that still had snow on the ice.

Not in NE Iowa pounded the gills and largemouth on a farm pond today. At times I was going “not another bass” probably released 30 bass today between 12″ and 16″ and my buddy and I kept 40 gills between 8″ and 9″ for a couple fish fries.

The bite has changed here. Went from suspended crappies that want very active presentations to bottom huggers that want lures held still.drilling lots of holes and keep moving has helped pick off active fish. Today i went to raising the lure a good 8 to 10 feet above the fish and jigging. This turned some and they came rushing in to hit the lure. One thing that hasnt changed is the crappies are still hitting shrimpos.
