Are you ever in the mood to sell off a few toys. I sold a boat this morning and it got me going on thinning out the heard. Posted a sled around 1 and realized I was a little to fair on the price. My phone has been ringing pretty steady since. Now what’s going on the chopping block next?

Any inexpensive jet boats for sale? However my wife doesn’t think I need a second boat for some reason!

After my last nightmare (botware, malware, spyware, etc) I will NEVER sell anything on CL. What a pathetic cesspool of crap. Fishing stuff goes right here. Not once have I been burned and often times I sell stuff to previous buyers once they know I take care and maintain my precious fishing gear.

PS – but it did force me to learn a LOT about how to clean up an Ipad, HTC Droid, Macbook Pro. Crap

I sell stuff on CL all the time. You do get scammers though. Still a great free resource for listing stuff locally.

I can say I have much for gear that is taking up space. A few rod holders and cheap graphs would be about all that’s collecting dust.

I sell extensively threw Craigslist. However I don’t respond to e-mails if they don’t include a phone number we can call first.

If you ever want to talk to the most desperate people in your area try to sell a running car for $800 on craigslist. I sell a lot of stuff on Craigslist and it has it’s place. I’ve generally have had good experiences with it, but I have a couple rules…

I only deal with phone calls and face to face.

The price I list is fair and that’s what you pay. My ads say firm and i mean it. Any lowballers get told to pound sand.

Cash is king. I’m sure your grandma had really nice jewelry, but I wont trade.

I will not meet you somewhere, ship, or deliver.

I will not go out of my way for you.

Clear most of these up at first contact to weed out the riffraff and most transactions go pretty smooth.

Thats a classic move. I once put an ad looking for old shoes in the paper and put my buddies number.

One better than an $800 running car…Try listing something for free and then listen to your phone ring. Last time I listed a “free, you pick up” broken water softener my phone starting ringing less than 5 minutes after the ad was posted and didn’t stop until I took the ad down. Saved me $40 my trash hauler wanted to dispose of it.

Really? I won’t have anyone come to my house, at least not for a first look. I sold a boat on CL this fall. Lookers met me at a nearby boat landing. After I’d met the buyer and was comfortable with his normality, I had him pick it up at my home. I don’t need any weirdos scoping out my house, garage, or family for a theft or worse. I’d say meet at a public place–store parking lot, boat ramp, etc.

Really. Any scum bag walking down the street can be checking out my household at any time, their not exclusive to Craigslist. I tell them I’ll be at my house and give them a time. When I see them pull up, I close the garage door, put the kids inside, and conduct the transaction in my driveway. My experience is that you get blown off by buyers quite a bit and I’m not going to interrupt my free time for that. My driveway is as public as anything.

I agree with Ryan especially if it’s a relatively large cash deal. I personally don’t want anybody knowing where I live unless I know them. But, everybody has their own level of comfort so there is no right or wrong answer.

…and If I lived in a large urban area and there were large sums of money involved I would feel the same way. Most stuff I sell is crap I don’t need that is too good to give away at the curb. A 50 dollar circular saw is different than a 5000 dollar boat.

I don’t let my friends come to my house let alone some stranger off of Craigslist. That makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Anybody can get your address with a phone number and a name. So when you list your phone number on the ad, and state your name on the phone, they can get your address in less than 2 minutes online. If you want your privacy, don’t list on craigslist.

Most of the time you can just put a phone number into google and it will tell you the address and give a map on how to get to that person’s house. I’ve had to look up addresses for people before, and its as easy as that.

Don’t believe me? Put your name and phone number into google and see what happens.

I’ve sold one thing on Craiglist and it was the beginning of November. We worked all through CL email exchange. She seemed very eager, but not pushy. I had her full name and was not apprehensive about her coming over. It was for furniture, so I pretty much had no choice.

Went real well. I don’t know how the heck we got the sofa and ottoman in the back of the mini van. I sure hope they got it out alright.

The experience was awesome. I didn’t have to sell her on it. She was eager to get it and came with the cash, no haggling as she promised.

I love CL. As some of the others have said just be upfront with how you will communicate and what the price is on your product and you should be fine.

I once sold a camper for 5900 and he didn’t negotiate at all,, started pealing out 100’s. I thought they were fake. I mean,, ask me for $100 off and I’ll give it to ya.

The girl I dealt with just moved back from Jersey. I don’t think she was concerned with the little wear there was on the set. I think she was happy to get the couch, chair and ottoman set. There were plenty of other couches out there identical to mine, but I was one of the few with a complete set.

I did almost have to tell her parents to shut up as they were pointing stuff out and asking her if she was sure.

She seemed like a good kid, I hope there was no buyers remorse.

The issue with craigslist and people coming to your house is…. you saying, well I won’t be home until so and so time…do people really use their phone number on CL ? I always use email, the scrambled email. they can leave me their number….
