Weird Inquiry – Foam

I’m looking for some foam matting for my kids to play on in the water. They have some in the pool where we do swimming lessons, but no one there can tell me where I can find it. Anyhow, I’m talking about 4′ x 4′ mats (roughly) that are 1.5″ or 2″ thick.

I’ve been searching online, but all I can come up with is huge, expensive floating mats. I’ve found some foam online, but without being able to actually handle it, I’m not sure if it’s what I want, and it’s too expensive to chance it. This cross-linked polyethylene looks like what I want, but I am not positive.

Wondering if anyone knows of a place in the Mpls metro area that I could find something like this???

Thanks. Looking for something smaller and less expensive, though.

McMaster Carr sells almost any kind of foam you’d want.

I so think no matter what it’s going to be expensive. I believe you’ll want to be looking for closed cell foam for use on the water.

They sell cushion foam, which will absorb water. You need closed cell foam. They may be able to order it for you through their distributor though, so may be worth a shot!

I am aware of what I need. I just don’t know what it’s called. Rest assured, I will get closed cell foam. I’ve actually got a free sample comimg from my original link.

At my local pool they have a product called the water mat. Not cheap I don’t think, but the one locally I bet was keeping 1000 pounds of adult above water!

So I’m assuming the kick boards that they use to teach swimming are to small. You could probably rig 3 or 4 those together and make a decent floating mat. I think the kickboards are 10 bucks a piece is all.

Somebody knows where your pool got those mats. LOL

Yes, awesome, but it comes at a steep price! If I had the money to blow, I would be all over that, but I am wanting the same thing on smaller scale for the toddler and under crowd!

Good idea, but not what I am after. Thanks.
