I live in Indiana. We have relaxed regualtions in compared to a lot of surrounding states. I will state some general regs below for comparison. Every once in a while it comes up as to if these regs should be adjusted or not. I am curious to see what others think.

Blue Gill: No size or bag limit, no season
Perch, Crappie, Red Ear: 25 bag limit no size limit, no season
Bass: 14″ size limit, 5 bag limit, No season
Walleye: 14″ size limit, 6 bag limit, No Season
Pike: 20″ size limit, 3 bag limit, No Season
*** These regulations are for in-land lakes and do not include Rivers or Lake Michigan.

IL is very similar. NO issue there.

No closed seasons just dont seem right. Do many down there target spawning fish? I believe that here in MN if some of our game fish where open year round they would be raped on the spawning beds in the spring time. It doesnt take a lot of people to mess up a spawning area.

MN panfish are open year round. Pike, bass, walleyes have closed spawning seasons.

    Two things I look at:

    1. Is the species hurting across the state or a portion of the state?
    2. Are the limits excessive.

If yes to either of the above, then they should be looked at more closely.

I can’t answer your specific question even with an opinion being from out of your area.

    This bugs me.

Unless of coarse the majority of the fishery is already stunted.

Indiana has some of the best bass fishing in the country. Seasons don’t need to be closed because the growing season is a little longer They get ice in dec and out in feb/march. The fish are spawning before MN is ice free.
