I ran across a HD si bird that I’ve been procrastinating on pulling the pin on. It is in Wisconsin and I’m wondering if you need to pay sales tax if paid over the phone and shipped? I exchanged a few emails last week with them but wasn’t sure if I was going to buy yet or not so I didn’t ask them about tax or the price of shipping.

They can only charge sales tax if you order from a company that is in the same state as you order from. The state of Minnesota expects you to pay the sales tax to the state on your own. Nobody I know of does this. As far as shipping prices go, shop around, some charge, some don’t. I have bought from jolly Anne in the past a d was very pleased with the price and fast turn around.

I’ve been watching the 898c si HD go from $1400 to $1300 then drop to $899 when the new 899ci HD si came out at $999. I just was in bass pro, and over the last several months watched this happen. The nice thing about the new 899 is that it is much more portable as it has its GPS antena internal.
January 6, 2014 at 6:19 am #1377202998 is what I’m looking at. I found one for 1195 and another for 1300

Thanks for mentioning that I just saw the price on the 999 HD si and think I might be holding off a little longer and going that route. Both the units I found were demo units.January 6, 2014 at 6:28 am #1377205If your placing a phone order, be sure to ask the question and get an absolute out the door price. nearly all out of state internet sales are without sales tax. But I’ve had numerous times where I was placing a phone order and they added the tax – make sure they are clear on their policy so you don’t have any surprises
castle-rock-clownPosts: 2596January 6, 2014 at 6:30 am #1377206Those are nice prices on the 998, has h-bird released all their new models for 2014? It seems their pricing has changed on locators in a way that seems to reverse the upward trend in prices.
January 6, 2014 at 6:43 am #1377216I don’t know when they are getting released but their site has the suggested retail at 1499 for the 999 HD si. I’ve been conditioned to any new model being higher priced not coming down in price.
January 6, 2014 at 6:50 am #1377218I ordered a lx-7 from reed’s in MN for $549, checking the conformation email the total was $577.49, I live in WI go figure

January 6, 2014 at 7:25 am #1377236I just checked out reeds and they are selling new 998 HD si for the same price with free shipping as the demo units I was looking at.
January 6, 2014 at 7:27 am #1377238Jollyannsales boasts no sales tax outside Nebraska and free shipping to the continental USA. unless something has changed, they are a site sponsor.
January 6, 2014 at 7:32 am #1377240Nothing has changed with Jolly Ben at JollyAnn Marine.
Still same golden service.
He was at the NPAA convention this last weekend with a BIG smile on his face.

Reeds will charge you tax since they are out of MN. Build that into the price… Its going to be another $90 with the tax.

just thinking out loud here. If a retailer charges Minnesota state sales tax to a online customer from out of state, can they simply pocket that money as cash profit???
inskomPosts: 144January 6, 2014 at 8:15 am #1377276998c HD SI for $1,205 from universalmania
Best price I’ve seen for the HD version.

Yup, unless they accidentally write it down as an in-state purchase and pay it to the state. I’d guess it was just a lazy reeds worker who didn’t bother to hit the “no sales tax” button. They took the money and pocketed it. Typical reeds experience, happened to a lot of people. When you call they will be very rude, like you are trying to rip the off when they made the mistake.. been there, done that.
January 6, 2014 at 8:33 am #1377290Jolly Ann is out of the 998 HD SI units and will not be getting anymore in.
I’m currently working on website updates to get the new Humminbird units added to the site. If there is one of the new units you may be interested in just shoot me an email and I’ll get you a quote.
We have some of the new units in the warehouse and others are expected to show up at an time.
We do NOT charge sales tax for sales outside of Nebraska and shipping most items is FREE.

I also got clipped for WI sales tax from Reeds, guess I will have to order new Terrova from JollyAnn.
January 6, 2014 at 10:07 am #1377345Are they charging out of state online purchases the tax from that state? Or MN sales tax?
January 6, 2014 at 10:27 am #1377364When I bought my HDS from reeds last spring I shipped it to my buddies house out of state to avoid the sales tax. My receipt did not show any tax but my credit card did so i called them and they corrected it for me.
