    not to mention the protection the receivers get nowadays and the interference being called more it was a different game back then

    Totally agree with everyone who has stated that “elite” is earned.

    Beyond the QB himself, the QB gains the elite tag through other factors:

    – Great recievers. What would Bradshaw have been without Swan? Jerry Rice elevated TWO QBs to elite status, Montana and Rice. Johnny Unitas and Ray Berry redefined the game with thier passing/recieving.

    – A system that supports “elite” boosting stats.

    – A great defense. Getting the “elite” tag is only going to happen by getting deep into the playoffs and into Superbowls. No matter how “elite” a QB is, you don’t get into Superbowls if you can’t stop even the Little Sisters of the Poor from scoring.

    The bottom line is that no one can judge what college QB will become an elite QB because there are too many factors in play. The point is you have to be in contention to draft a player like Johnny Football or AJ Alabama, because the only way to KNOW is to get them and see what happens.
