As an Illinois boy, I am sickened by the number or lack thereof of whitetail because the Dnr has killed them off. I didn’t see a deer once during my outings and I know I wasn’t the only one, not only that but the cougar that they shot in Morrison was unnecessary. those trigger happy idiots are going to wipe out the whitetail in Illinois and something needs to be done, does anyone agree? I know we cant have chronic wasting spread but you cant kill just to raise budget.

We have the same problem up here. CWD is BS it’s just an excuse. I saw a few deer during early bow. none during gun and two while I was out pheasant hunting. Horrible

I don’t know anything about deer much less IL deer….so help me out.

What was the IL deer population like in the ’50’s, 60’s and 70’s? Anyone know?

Not that it’s too funny but, wouldn’t that be like people in Northern MN complaining the moose numbers are so low… and why did the DNR shoot that wolf ???

Actually the DNR doesnt shoot any deer in your state. Its all hunters. Just because there are tags doesnt mean that hunters have to purchase and use them. It will take a mentality change by hunters to get the problem fixed. It is happening in many midwest states right now.

I don’t think its possible to change people that much when it comes to hunting/gathering. Laws need to change to protect the resource.

Yup… AND the DNR biologists can only recommend the number of tags to people in power who answer to politicians and are pressured by groups that don’t want deer like insurance companies and then decisions are made by people who don’t know jack rather than people who have sound knowledge of herd management.

BUT people will continue to blame the DNR based on some biased news story or what they heard at the tavern.

The dnr needs to stop trying to fix something that is not broken…ie: SE Minnesota’s deer herd.

Sorry, but the fact of the matter is that the DNR is sharpshooting the deer near feeders. not only that, but they also are issuing too many tags, I agree you don’t have to purchase tags and permits but people always will so you have to count that out.
