Ok, maybe not new regs but new translation of the single tackle configuration from the top. I received this email very soon after contacting the MN DNR and look forward to trying out some new tactics this year to put some more fish on shore or in the boat!!

    Quote:

You can use more than one live bait on a single tackle configuration. All the bait used with the single tackle configuration must be legal to use (example can’t use game fish, gold fish, or carp, etc.). Just a reminder that the single tackle configuration can include up to three single or multiple hooks (example three treble hooks), can be bare hooks. All hooks must be on a single line and attached to the end of a fishing line. The total length of the single tackle configuration from the first hook to the last hook cannot be more than nine inches. Single tackle configurations cannot be used on designated trout streams/lakes.

Just remember it is 9″ total length, hook to hook.
This was basically written so us walleye folk could still legally pull crawler harness’ and quick strike rigs for pike.

It was written for those purposes, but it did have some grey areas, and with my compliments to the DNR they gave us fisherman the advantage rather than restricting it even further, kudos to them!!

Just to add a little more gray area, this is directly from the DNR website:

    Alabama Rig is Illegal

What is grey about this, doesn’t seem a bit controversial to me. Too many hooks, not attached to a single line, and all are lures, not bare hooks.

Likewise, minnows excel when baitfish are the main course, but Christensen has a trick up his sleeve for tipping with little fishes. He says that when walleyes are gorging on small minnows, he tips each of the hooks on a Lindy GS300 3-hook rig with a small fathead.

Good to see some more exposure on the subject. Nothing else its a good way for bait shops to sell more bait, you lose 2-3x the minnows on 1 fish, or snag
Not sure why font is blue, and not enough coffee to care right now.
