Getting your first vehicle back

Other than the color (chocolate brown with gold flake), this is exactly what my first vehicle looked like. Even the condition was the same.

A 1976 F250 2X4 with a 360 V8. Man that thing was fast, strong, loud and got a whopping 6 MPG. Sitting around last night watching Count’s Customs and looking at old pictures got me thinking.

Someday I would like to have my old truck back. Of course my exact truck is gone. I know where it is and it isn’t worth saving. But to go get another 1976 F250 and have it fully restored just for me to have.

Anyone else ever think of this or actually do this.

1982 Mercury Lynx station wagon……no thanks. I’d be happy to own the Ford truck and/or the Trans Am though.

I occasionally look online. 1971 chevrolet C20 w/36’s. It was a beast of a truck. We did a 3/4 restore on it then sold it when I went to college.

I understand the college thing. My truck was a “one wheel wonder” and would get stuck easily. I went to college in Duluth. Between the gas mileage and the hills I had to replace it. Bought a 1987 Nissan Sentra. Significant difference.

This is a pretty close picture to what I had. Mine was a sweet primer black when I sold it though. This was the original color that I bought it with.

That looks close to the color I remember mine being.

Here is a link to an old post My first car a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere with a 318, it was a great car but I would not want this one back if I ever get a car for fun someday I would have to go with a Camaro or a Vet.

I’ve been trying to find a ’69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 for the old man, as it was his first car. More so that I don’t have to keep listening to the stories. That car comes up about every other time we visit.

“Has to be burnt orange in color. They detuned the motor in ‘69.5 and stopped making that color. The ’69 340 V8 was the most underrated engine of the day.”. Word for word.

I don’t miss my ’93 Dodge Shadow. Rumor has it that its still kicking with 400k, though.

I bought a Henry for my dad!!! It was meant to be a project car for him, but unfortunately he passed away 6 years ago- still got that ugly thing in my mother’s garage!!!

The first vehicle I ever drove was the 1966 international scout at the farm. It had no brakes and a slant 4 with a factory plow. 18 years later I bought it from grandma and it will now stay in the family and keep plowing the driveway. I have pictures but can’t upload from my phone for some reason.

That might be the only one left in the world not cut up and made into a drag car ! Would like to see a picture sometime, if possible.

w0w.. my first car was a 66 merc Monterrey yellow with a black top and extremely similar to the above photo.. it had a 390, and it could spin 15 inch snow tires WITH ICE STUDS.. and it had a bad cylinder.. it HUGGED THE road due to the fast back.. It had a TON OF GRIP.. this was when real cars and NASCARS were one in the same..

This may change after the web site upgrade but I am not 100 percent sure on that, you will have to ask James to know for sure but untill that time here is how to add a photo to your post.

How to post a pic on IDO
