I voted for Angler’s Edge just slightly ahead of Roland. Roland is THE guy I looked up to growing up and is partially responsible for my love of fishing.

I caught the one episode he was fishing smallies in the fall I believe on a Central Minnesota lake. I think I also saw him on someone else’s show fishing a river for muskies? Maybe Anglers Edge?

What happened to City Fishing with Ike? Did that get canceled? I thought that was a cool concept. I guess people would rather see a couple days edited together to make it look like someone caught all their fish in 30 minutes of fishing? No one is interested in seeing a guy try to accomplish a challenge?

I think you left out Jimmy Houston on your lit too.

Speaking of golden oldies, when I was a lad the only show on the boob tube that would bring me indoors was The American Sportsman with Curt Goudy. By far better than anything on now. Then it would have to be Tony Dean,Virgil Ward. Modern day it would be Doug Stange, Lindners, and Gillispie.

They all helped build a mutibillon dollar industry that is for sure. I think Linder’s led the way in refining the shows to be presented the way they are. Gillespie is probably my favorite but I try to take something from all of them. Tony Dean’s documentaries where very good.

Tony Dean did a several episode documentary on the forage issue on Lake Oahe in the late ’90s. It was good.

Speaking of Gillespie, anyone hungry for a Johnsonville and a PBR?

    I am.

Anglers edge is number one.. but in the past, I prefer more detailed shows as opposed to “see the fish” I caught shows.. Hook and Look with Kim Stricker, is excellent.. no other shows true fish position on structure.. not like this show.. Classic Patterns was another, although I do not know if its still being made.. Bass Pro shops, bass shows are excellent.. Ido is on at a time that I never see.. However, the late Fall Smallies on the river with big suckers, was one of the finest shows, I have ever watched in over 40 years of fishing shows..

The show I forgot to add to the list was Hook ‘n’ Look. Underwater camera work is best out there IMO, but the show is on a channel many don’t watch. Its all bass so the walleye/muskie crowd probably wouldn’t like it as well. But the filming is excellent from a “fish-eye” view..

    From the list provided:

    IDO
    Anything by the Lindners
    The Next Bite

    Not on the list:
    Musky Hunter
Gun It with Benny Spies, but that has some hunting, too.

This is ancient and I don’t know how widely televised, but john gillespie’s dad earl has a show called earl goes fishing. Milwaukee area show. I’m 53yo now and believe I was younger than 10 from what I remember.

I love Gillespie, I crank the volume so the whole house can hear especially when he hollas “GET THE FRABILL”. His chef segments are so innovative, I think I’ve seen some other shows implementing them. Last but not least is the often offered and always appreciated “bro hug” good times. The only way too improve it would be having Gillespie and Holst guest on each others shows…now you’re talking GOLD, I’m telling you GOLD!

Don’t know if John would survive. James knows how to (and I assume enjoys) holding his own fish.

I met Winkelman once and a couple of guys from my fishing Club ran into him one day on vermilion. We all came up with the same opinion of him complete dbag. Gillespie is my favorite show to watch because it is current all year round. He is annoying but I can get past it.

Don’t forget Larry Csonka, north to Alaska. Gotta love those halibut with the mountains in the background. Smokey Joe also has great recipes for the grill.

there are four major channels for fishing shows.. and NO ESPN IS NOT ONE OF THEM.. NBC Sports.. ,Outdoor channel, The Sportsman’s Channel and Pursuit .. all of those are on Directv.. my major problem is that I seldom go to the Fox sports Wisconsin, Since its all Minnesota based on Directv.. so unless I am looking for a specific Brewer game, ( Does Milwaukee Still have a basketball team) I seldom get to a channel that high in the number column..

Not the first time I’ve heard you or others confirm what my impressions were from my experience. Doesn’t help he was busted for poaching either.

I know he can get dry but that Alaskan backdrop is mesmerizing to me
