Trailer tire recommendations

    Guys,
I just replaced the tires on my utility trailer last year and they are showing signs of early failure. The sidewalls are cracking, deeply. I know, I should have put a good quality brand name on it but didn’t, went with the cheap ones. You get what you pay for.
My question is what brand does the group recommend? Is Carlisle good? Even more importantly, what should I stay away from?

    Thanks,
    Don

I’ve had lots of problems with the Carlisles in the past. If I was putting on new rubber I’d steer clear of them.

Depends what you want to use them for, just short low speed trips, get the cheap ones. If you want duration and take long trips at high speed get the Maxxis M8008 ST Radial.

As important as what tires is how you store them. If your trailer sits for extended periods of time, invest in a set of tire covers from Harbor Freight or an RV store. Keeping UV rays off the tires day in/out will vastly improve overall tire life for trailers that sit a lot.

You say utility trailer which can means a lot of things. My “utility” trailer takes regular sized auto tires. This opens up the choices considerably. I just replaced mine with Carlisle which I have found not to be as good as others in the smaller boat trailer sized tires. These probably aren’t that good either but my utility trailer sits most of the time and the tires dry rot before ever getting close to using their tread. I took the only tire they had at the tire store up north.

X2 great tires…Any tire you do put on over inflate them if carrying heaver loads. On my boat trailer and horse trailer I usually run about 10 lbs. over.

Call Redneck Trailer Supplies for a near by store. We carry radials and bias tires and have a good warranty with the product. 1-877-973-3632

    X4 Goodyear Marathon’s

Depending on use and travel speeds, with lots of heavy loads and high speed travel, get them balanced too!

Triangle brand, I’ve sold thousands of them not had one back due to early failure.
