I plan to watch the show more now just to make up for the loss of Suzuki. WTG Phil.

Phil…I support you 100%. Just read the family is supporting the patriarch of the family and is in talks with A & E regarding the future of the show.
A & E will suffer far worse than the Robertson’s. Other networks like GAC and CMT would love to pick them up. GQ asked him what he considered to be a sin and he told them!! Whats he supposed to do…put up his finger and see which way the politically correct winds are blowing and give an answer like many these days!

Keep his mouth shut. Sometimes its best to not state your beliefs, even if they may seem to be correct.

If Phil was a Nazi and said being Jewish and a Christian is a sin and all Jews and Christians should die, would everyone still be defending his right to free speech? or are you all just defending the (your) bible?

Nope, even Nazis have rights.. unless your taking away free speech for those you choose…. I served this country so I can have my opinion and I certainly will defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights People who think they are entitled to pick and choose who get the rights, shouldn’t let the door hit them in the azz on the way out There are other countrys more suited to their beliefs.

Exactly the point I was trying to get at. I’m seeing a lot of replies on facebook, and even people on the big news stations that have never watched the show are coming out of the woodwork to defend the bible.

You shouldn’t be defending the bible, the bible shouldn’t even be mentioned.. if you want to protect free speech then you should support PHIL and his words, not the bible and its words that Phil stated.

Just from reading the replies all over the place, I think a lot of people are taking a religious stance and labeling it a “free speech issue”. A lot of these people, but not all of them, would be on the exact opposite side of the issue if it was another topic that did not fall in line with their religious beliefs.

As I see it Phil absolutely exercised free speech. He’s not in jail and hasn’t been cited. But with free speech comes civil responsibility and vulnerability to legal response. You can still say about anything you want in this country but if you offend people then don’t expect them not to exercise their right of free speech opposing you.

I don’t box this whole thing in as a gey issue. I see it as much broader than that. And for the record I asked a moderator twice to delete this post when it got heavy and starting getting people upset. I don’t want to see that happen.

The 1st amendment doesn’t protect [censored] from criticism. The right to act like an [censored] and to be called an [censored] is the same right.

For the record, I don’t agree with Phil’s stance, but I do believe that he had every right to express his opinion. I’ll still watch the show, if it continues to air.

Someone should start selling Free Phil shirts.

Huh? Its been that way since the beginning of time. If you state your belief that goes against the upper ranks you get punished. In the old days if Phil would have said something controversial they would have beheaded him at the city gates.

The only difference is now the bible does not reign supreme in our nation. With our melting pot of races and religions, the bible is no longer the tell-all proper way. So something that is included in the bible, like this, cannot be freely said without repercussions when you are a public figure like Phil.

This whole thing is massively over blown on both sides. Bottom line for me is I don’t see anything in the quotes where he attacked or judged anyone. Its a perfect case study for the America we live in today. There are people exploiting this thing to the hilt and that has lead to blowing this thing up way out of proportion. People are tweaking what he said and out right lying about it and people are treating a suspension like it is a free speech issue. The A&E offices had to beef up security over death threats.

Now that the rumor is the Robertson’s are threatening to walk, I see it ending in 1 of 3 ways.

1.) Phil gets reinstated by the time the next season starts filming. From what I heard, 9 of 10 episodes are in the can for the next season. So they make Phil sit out the 10th episode to appease people. Or, they hold off on filming the 10th episode as long as they can and reinstate him.

2.) They walk and it’s over.

3.) They walk and A&E sues them.

If anyone disagrees with my assessment that Phil didn’t say anything judgmental or say something where he attacked someone, I’d be willing to discuss.

I got to agree with what has been written on other websites. The family will stick together and stand behind Phil. No Phil – no show. A&E will cave. A&E knows this show has some life left. 2-3 seasons for sure. There is even the possibility this whole flap will actually increase ratings.

One thing I don’t get and have not found any info on. Why in the hell was Phil doing an interview with GQ magazine? GQ – come on, where did you think this was going to go? Really think they were going to make a redneck from Louisiana look good? Lesson learned there.

I just spent more time reading this thread then I ever did watching the show. Fact is I couldn’t pick out any body on the show.

But the flap won’t change anything, I still won’t watch no matter what station it ends up on.

I love the show! It’s a great example to everyone. If these guys can succeed and make millions, anyone can. America is still the greatest place on earth!

He’s an interesting guy and for the yuppie city kitties who read GQ, he’s a bit of an oddity. Google “Phil Robertson GQ Article” and read the whole thing. It’s a pretty good article.

I am very much in favor of free speech, more so than you from what you have said here.. I’ll explain.

Not at all, it was spot on.. and you proved it. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Its still free speech. You can’t pick and choose what is free speech based on your religious beliefs. That is pure hypocrisy!

I will stand behind Phil’s right to say what he did until the day I die, and I will also stand behind A&E’s right to suspend him. I will also stand behind ANYBODY who says ANYTHING that is protected by free speech. Some of you here are only backing him because what he said is in the bible, that is hypocrisy to the supreme.. You’ll back him because what he says is also your belief.

I’ll say it again! You can’t pick and choose what is free speech!

Defend the bible if you wish, but it has no impact in this incident what so ever. Doesn’t matter if what he said is in the bible or not, its free speech. If he would have said he is turning to Atheism and says everyone who believes in God is ignorant I’ll back him there as well. Not because I believe in what he is saying, but because its his right to say it.

By the way, my Nazi references are not something I believe in, its just the most extreme example of free speech that I can think of. One that most people hate, but everyone has the right to express if they choose to.
