We are looking at visiting some family in texas for spring break and then running over to the coast (padre island) for a few days. My relatives are telling us they are getting mixed reports on this area and are not sure on how to advise us. They are hearing both that it is perfectally safe but also that the cartels are acting up now and that it is too close to mexico. anyone else have any connections in that area.
My grandparents live on the island. Spring break is crazy as all h#// down there. But cartel? No. Its a hole bunch of drunk college kids doing stupid things.
I spent a couple of days there. No trouble really. Was not impressed with the area
My in-laws had a place in Port Isabel for many years (right before you cross to the island) Like said above spring break I’d stay away. Some great places to eat and there;s a sea turtle rescue place that’s cool for kids and adults, dolphin watching trips, etc… I used to go out with my father in law fishing for Redfish and Speckled trout, some of the most fun I’ve ever had fishing!
No cartel activity that I’m aware of. It’s touristy
my parents winter in edinburg/mcallen. they do not visit the border towns anymore but padre island’s still the same.
I’ve got Family in Rockport, just up the coast. Loved fishing trout and drum down there! Padre and Port Aransas aren’t too bad when it isn’t spring break time like others have said. Corpus Christi is a pretty neat larger town too, you really can’t go wrong down there. The Cartel stuff to my knowledge is much further west and more prominent on the Mexico side. If you’re concerned, just look up Port A or Rockport and if you want, PM me and I’ll get the skinny on a good place to stay while you’re there.
The only thing I know about Texas is Joe Horn. 
All I know is that all of BrianK’s exes live in Texas.
