i have a similar truck but with a 5.3… good truck all in all… the 4.8 was a under rated engine. there performance isnt that far off the 5.3. you should be happy with it!

I’ve got a 01 with the 4.8, 230,000 miles and counting. Just regular oil changes, I’d buy one again.

True.I had both and was no real difference. The 4.8 does not have AFM,some of the 5.3s had some issues?2wd and some winter rated tires works very well.A big plus if you have a locking differential.

I just traded in my 2003 Chev with the 4.8 due to rust issues. The motor still ran very strong and I did not ever have any issues. The truck had 242,000 miles on it.

GMC makes a solid product. Have experience with a 2500hd myself and that truck got beat to snot and took it all in stride.

My old man has basically the same truck you post on but in the chevy line up. Truck handles all is basic daily needs, only pitfall is when towing a larger load, she struggles to say the least and mpg drops drastically compared to the 5.3 or 6.0. Its even worse if you are in hill country. But on a day to day basis the truck serves all his needs. He is arguably the hardest on vehicles of any man I have encountered and he hasn’t had any mechanical issues. The cosmetic ones are all his fault…
