My 8 yr old would like to purchase a UWC with the money he earned selling his sweet corn this year. My question is which cam should I suggest for him. Marcum or Vexlar. What would you say is the better cam for the money and the long haul. I just want to make sure he gets what his hard work is worth.

I would suggest a CF for him. Price point, warranty, and functions for a hard working young man.

Don’t forget about aqua vu. Their new micro units look pretty slick.

Yes the micro does look handy but I’m worried about it falling down the hole. I know I would have a hard time if I bought it let alone an 8 yr old that worked all summer to buy one. Thinking it needs to be full size unit. He all ready has fl 20 he bought last year. Think I might help him get a vexlar double vision unit. Thanks for input the more info the better.

I don’t have any help for your question.. but I’d just like to say that is one heck of a good lesson you are teaching your son! I’m sure he will enjoy which ever unit he gets

I’m in the same spot, looking for my GF. the vexilar fs800 is color and BW for under $300 with a 2 year warranty. The marcum vs385 is BW only $340 and a 1 year warranty.

Just the facts, which is better I don’t know. Both are LCD. I’m a Marcum flasher guy all the way but color vs BW and double the warranty time and I’m leaning toward the vex. I’m still waiting on vexilar’s Fishphone to come to market.

I would recommend the Marcum. I had the two Aqua Views and they were not nearly as good as the Marcum. The last Aqua View was the Micro and it was disappointing but I know they have improved it since then. I am a Vexilar guy all the way but Marcum for the cameras.

Nutz, I’m trying to remember all the WiFi camera options that are available or soon to be available to pair with a phone or tablet. I know we’ve been discussing it and I know you’ve probably researched a lot deeper than me. Can you refresh my memory of what is out and soon to be out?

    Here’s what I recall:
    Vex – FishPhone
Aqua-Vu – LookingGlass (Not out yet)

We sure could have used a camera yesterday. Scouting would be easier if you could see bottom content and any cover nearby like green weeds. Drilling a bunch of holes and hole hopping blindly until you determine the depth fish are active is slow. It’d be nice to have a camera to where you could scout more effectively.

That being said, as I have told you, its hard to be willing to spend $300+ on something that will only come out the the first 15 minutes of hitting a lake or until a satisfactory location is found.

Here’s to hoping you sold enough of your own sweet corn for any goodie you find today.

Well the boy picked out a vs385. He made me very proud by going through the price-vs- Money on hand and picked the one he could afford. we got it home opened it up and there was a crack in the housing around the lens area so it will be going back to the store next friday and we will be shopping for one at the st paul ice show.

Yea I wish I would have sold corn too.lol I ended up with a xt1200 otter resort.

    Pug,

Your memory is perfect, the Vex FishPhone should be available soon. I ended up emailing Scheels and I have to apologizes to them, a store manager called me and they sent me a rain check in the mail and a $10 gift card. He said the FishPhone should be out before Christmas.

Cool, thanks. I’ve got a feeling I am getting a 8″ Android tablet for Christmas and my birthday is January 8. So I’ll just have to get a ruggedizing case and buy one of those 2 as a birthday present to myself.

I’ll be getting the FishSonar as well, but that can wait for open water.
