If you’d like brighten an old fishermans’ spirits share some fresh fried fish with some nursing home residents.
The nursing home my Mom lives in has a stove in the multipurpose room that is used for resident activities so I asked if I could use it to pan fry some fish for Mom’s supper. The dietary staff was happy to accomodate and even offered help with supplies, etc.
The first time I just took one walleye fillet for Mom and had an extra piece that I offered to one of the residents that used to be a fisherman, but whose health has been failing. The fish really brightened his spirits for a couple of days. This week I took 4 fillets so I’d have more to share with the other residents, and it was VERY popular.
So if you’d like share a taste of the happy days of fishing with someone who is longer able to fish, see if your local nursing home would be interested in having a fish fry.
