At least your DNR was honest enough to acknowledge that they killed the cat where they did. Seems like WI is in 100% denial until there is such over-whelming evidence that they admit “a possible” sighting. One of my daughter’s friends had her horse killed by a cat a few years ago. I know the responders, vet, and a fellow trapper that were at their house that next morning. Even then it was dismissed as “unknown cause”

Same here in Minnesota, 110% Denial by MnDNR

That is unless you shoot and kill one, then you get Charged

Best advice to anyone killing a Protected animal:
    Shoot, Shovel, Shut-up!

A friend of mine had one on camera the dnr said it was a large farrow cat after looked at the location measuring and such. So he said is it ok to shoot it response “Well what do you need to do that for” Gee don’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. If they can’t recognize a mountain lion from a kitty cat or a coyote from a wolf, maybe they are in the wrong business. DON’T YOU THINK

Ask the guy in SW Minnesota who shot a cougar a couple years ago in a culvert and was charged.

just claim that it wasn’t shot in MN

if they want proof refer them back to their official position re the presence/absence of cougars in the state

That’s like the DNR around LaCrosse that like to explain every bear sighting as one bear that covers the entire county.

There is nothing in the books about cougars (mountain lions) in the State of IL. Local Game Warden says shoot away. Not protected, no season, no regulation. Same with bears! One was put to sleep just a little over an hours drive from the Quad Cities and relocated. DNR suggests if one is seen, to notify them and let them take care of it.
