Transom Saver

I am currently using a transom saver on my boat and I truly believe in them. I just am wondering if someone has a good idea on how to keep the motor from getting all scratched up from the actual piece the motor rests in. I would love to hear what people have to say and what their opinions are on this subject. I have had transom savers in the past but it seems like the one I have for my new boat seems to scratch the motor up pretty good. Maybe I just need to purchase a different one?

Most I have seen have small pieces of plastic ( 1 on each side) that goes up against the lower unit.

If it’s metal on metal then I would think some kind of plastic tubing cut and adhered on transom saver or when all fails, wrap it good with your favorite color of Duct tape.

I quit using my transom saver and went to the “My Wedge” along with the supports that keep the motor from turning and I am never going back.

    Much smaller and extremely efficient.

My transom saver has little rubber pads that protect the motor. Been using it for years without any sign that I have been using it. I even have one of those black motors.

The my-wedge concept doesn’t do anything for the transom. The concept itself can only benefit the power trim/tilt unit by reducing the shock between the piston and cylinder. In order to benefit the transom, all of the shock load needs to be moved away from the transom. The my-wedge doesn’t do that. There are varying opinions about them and their actual benefit.

Some people also believe that transom savers in general don’t have a lot of benefit because MOST transoms are designed to take that abuse anyway. Consider what your transom goes thru when you are cruising in 3-5′ waves. Probably worse than any road can dish out.

I cut a piece of hand towel to fit in the wedge folded over itself and glued it down has worked great for me!!

Heads up. Better have safe search on in Google if you Google transom saver. I mean if you are at work. Had no idea bare breasts were related to transom savers.

My TS has thick rubber. No matter what is used it will mar the paint.

I get some light scratches on mine as well even with the rubber pads. I think it’s a small price to pay to support your motor fully though. I don’t know of anything else out there that is better.

I personally think David Blaine should be the face of “My Wedge” because it must be magic!

Math will never support the theory of the “My Wedge”.

my rig came from the dealer with the my-wedge. the way I see it is, all those scratches in the lower unit come from movement of the motor and the transom saver. that movement transfers to the transom when the motor moves. when the trailer moves, the transom saver moves and so does the motor that is attached to the transom. what are you solving?

You are supporting the bouncing weight of the motor with the trailer instead of the transom.

Are you sure you spelled it correctly? You sure you didn’t type “bosom saver”?

I think the guy posted pictures of his transom originally to a PhotoBucket or some other photo storage site and then replaced them with his wife’s bare knockers, forgettign about the transom post.

ps. not bad of I say so myself

The movement is most likely the transom flexing under the weight of the motor.
