Mr. Hoffies post regarding bands got me thinking about the “old days”. I had a couple cars back then that I, like I’m sure a lot of other people wish they still had.
Mine were a 1968 Thunderbird with a 429 four barrel and a 1972 Chevelle SS with cowel induction. I REALLY wish I had the Chevelle!
    What was yours?

’88 Honda Accord – loved that car!

OK, so I am a bit younger than you guys. I love muscle cars, one is just not in my budget.

I had a tricked out 73 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Motor was a rocket 350 rebuilt to stock specs with a Holley carb. Decent car. My most powerful vehicle is my current 2013 Chevy pickup with 6.2 gasser. My wife had a WRX many years ago. It was fun and probably quickest to 100+ but we only kept it a couple years. She didn’t like shifting.

The Old’s 98 was a sweet ride. Comfortably fit 8 teenagers. She’d kill me at todays gas prices, but then what car from back then wouldn’t?

My first car was an 82 Chevy Caprice. That thing was tight. 305ci engine, 4bbl carb. I used to let it roll backwards, then slam it in drive and hammer the gas. It didn’t have a posi rear on it, but it had one tire of fire, is what we called it. It was a 4 door Hog, but it was a great car. I miss it…

My first car was a 1962 2dr Ford Falcon, I traded 3 days of baling hay for it.. and complained all 3 days I was putting so much work into a Ford

From then on its been all Chevys 2 1964 Chevy II ,1 1966 & 1 1967 Chevelle,1967 RS Camero and ended with a 1968 GTS Dart with a 340 6pack 4 spd from the factory, also fiberglass hood and trunk from the factory and that where the tickets started coming in at

I learned how to drive in my parents 1964 Chevy Corvair down in Rochester as a teen growing up. I was so embarassed to be seen in that car – The passenger compartment was a bubble in the middle of the vehicle – you couldn’t tell if it was facing forward or backward unless it was moving. That car did not help make me become a chick magnet that’s for sure.

I painted houses all summer long in 1980 so I could buy my first car – a 1972 Toyota Celica for $1600. Now that was my first love…what a great vehicle. When it finally died in the late 80’s I took it to the junk yard but sawed off the 4 speed gear shift with a hack saw. I still have it…brings back great memories. I had dual Infinity 3 foot home stereo speakers in the back seat, an Alpine stereo/cassette player and a 120 watt booster. It rocked, I blasted all those great classic rock songs listed on the other thread. Mullet hair to boot – I sure was a chick magnet at that point and a legend in my own mind

Had a 70 Olds 98 with the 455 Rocket. Great car! We could ice fish with 6 guys in there no problem. (Watching a spread of tip ups with a TV on the dash.) Sold the car for more than I paid for it, Guy just wanted the motor!

Had a 72 Duster. Went through a lot of rear tires with that car.

My parents had a ’69 Dodge Charger with a 383 and 4 speed. They sold it about the time I was born for a better family car. Wish they could have held onto that for me.

Closest I had was an ’83 Z28. Not exactly a classic, but it was fun.

You know how I feel! We called it The Beast! If I recall correctly, she didn’t have the best handling around turns. The force would cause the inside side of the car to raise. Man, I can still just feel myself in that car when I think about it.

You could put 4 – 16 gallon kegs in the trunk. The doors were easily 10 inches thick. And not that crappy thin tin they use these days. That steel was thick! Safest feeling car I ever drove. Yeah, I do miss that ride….

Hmm, my memory is bad. But now that you say that, it sounds familiar. Maybe that was the actual term we used for it. I don’t think Beast was a popular word back then. Wasn’t it common back then to call large cars boats?

our boat was the 73 Grand Fury, you could lay in the back seat and your head or toes wouldn’t touch the doors. All I know is that is sure held alot of pumpkins in the trunk, and went through gas like crazy.

Yeah it was. My folks had a 73 Impala. it was about 12 feet across! I had to parallel park that thing at my drivers test.
I remember pushing stuck cars when I was a kid, long before front wheel drive. Putting on snow tires every winter.

My First Car was a 1967 Pontiac Catalina. Had a 400 cubic inch motor. True meaning of a Boat. One car I’ll never forget was my Cousins 1964 Ford Galaxie pink with a white roof. Met the FW cruising Broadway in that baby.
