are loosing your health care from the place that you are working for? I for one are loosing mine at the end of 2014 from a famous glue and tape company. TG they are going to supplement me with a check to help buy some heath care. I sure hope it all works out at the end of this madness.

    I forgot I’m retired.

We get insurance through my wife’s work and her hours are being cut so they do not have to offer health insurance now. I like your tread, but will be counting the minutes until this is deleted…

For those of you that work out of state but live in MN, you might want to take the time to check MNSure.com

I was looking around in there for a short time last night and still need to do some more checking, but I found some less expensive insurance that covers more then my WI based employer.

So far it looks like the deductible is the deal breaker, but I know our insurance is changing…to what, I don’t know yet.

I am self employed and have a high deductible health insurance plan for me, my wife and 3 kids. It is an outrageously high premium and when you add in deductibles it gets sickening. But we were told at a minimum we could keep that coverage. Well, guess what we can’t now. The new plan will double the premium. That plus the self employment tax means the first $40k I make for the year goes to healthcare and self employment tax alone.

Makes it tough with 3 kids in college.

I lose my health coverage from my wife’s employer at the end of 2013-informed to us in a letter from her employer that clearly explains that the decision has been made as a result of the “affordable care act”.

Starting next year, I’ll be on my employer’s health care which is 3x as expensive and half as good.

Starting to regret my recent voting choices.

Just received our notice of new rates and options at my business which employee’s about 25-30, with about 16 choosing for insurance and can tell you this, it isn’t pretty. No more details but I think we are all SOL!!!
My question is, at what point does one get to the point they aren’t no longer working thier off, to help support the ones who think they simply deserve it with no service what so ever added. That’s really make me
Think things are going to get really interesting by the 1st of the new year.
Wow, I do feel better now… kind of

For our company (50-60 employees) it works out better for most employees. Due to the massive ramp-up in costs over the last 10 years, we had to stop offering insurance and the company now just pays a contribution and caps the rate of increase every year, so we’re on the hook for the difference.

What most employees have found so far is that the company contribution buys more insurance on the MNSure site than they we were able to buy as indivudual buyers through brokers or direct to insurance companies.

It’s hard to get an apples to apples comparison because the plans are different and what I paid last year has never meant anything because costs go up 10-30% every year.

So picking a plan on MNSure is reflecting 2014 prices, whereas my old company plan was priced back in 2012, therefore I don’t know how much more it would cost if I stuck with it today.

The exchange or the flawed website is the only wat to get a possible subsidy on your monthly premiums. Over here there are 2 carriers fighting for the subsidized individuals. These people can not have any access to group insurance. I can say for sure that only about 4 people so far out of my whole client list are better off going to a new ACA compliant plan. There’s no way to sugar coat the fact that health care premiums are on the way up quickly. Not familure with the MNsure plan, but I assume it’s new. So make sure the network provides coverage with the facilities and Dr.’s you currently use. Also ask what happens if you are out of network. Co-insurance percentage and out of pocket max. These all factor into the decision. If you are self employed and in good health, look into an HSA plan.

If any of you would like assistance from a broker feel free to shoot me a PM. I’ve been assisting my clients with health ins before Affordable health care/MNsure came along. Not a big fan by any means of the new Gov supported website that basically does exactly what we as brokers were already doing…But this is how things are going to be so “it is what it is.”
Being self employed I pay my own health ins. The increase with my current carrier would equal around $2400 per yr. 2 adults 1 child all healthy. Rarely go to the doc.
I can tell you there are a couple of options out there that would keep my personal situation at the same premium amounts prior to the increase starting Jan 1. My point there is some hope that depending on the factors switching to another carrier will keep options affordable. Regardless good luck to everyone.

Wait till you see what happens to the rates after
MN drops their high risk pool next year
and you have to start paying for them with your ins.

The biggest mistake was that they ignored HSAs when coming out with the new law. They could have actually saved us money, not just lied about saving us money.

This is different than the yearly increases. This is very disruptive to many, many families. That’s evident in this thread, A lot of it is because Obama lied about keeping your exsisting plan again and again, there is no way he didn’t know that was false. This is NOT a Democrat vs. Republican thing, just fact.
The rhetoric regarding Obamacare is over and it’s now a reality and time will tell but it’s off to a rocky start at best.

The problem is that we were told this would stop the rising cost of Healthcare or at least make increases more marginal and manageable. We were also told it would cost X and it ended up being 3 times X.

Hopefully at some point the whole thing will have a major overhaul after a lot of serious scrutiny. They went about it the wrong way following the same old formula.

At least we can be thankful it isn’t universal healthcare.

The Pres said last night only 5% of the population will be forced to get different health care. And once those 5% switch they will realize they have better health care at a lower price…

Wow since he put it that way I don’t know what any of us have to worry about.

Dang right the sky is falling. This is one of the worst things to happen to America in quite some time. Surely the worst thing in my lifetime.

Adding a whole bunch of high risk people and those that never had insurance into the pool. What did they think was gonna happen?
Of course everyone’s premiums will increase. The only folks this ACA is any good for are those that couldn’t be insured before, or those that won’t have to pay squat for it.
The rest of us are being bent over the barrel.

On a more happy note. Most likely this will lead to a massive wave of conservative candidates whooping up in the next few elections.

What this is missing is that we were ALREADY paying for these people. Including large numbers of people who could afford health insurance, but just chose to roll the dice.

When all these uninsured get sick, the welfare system (aka the Taxpayer) has to pay for thier care. Governments at all levels have been having to foot the bills for these people, so if you’re a working person, you’ve been paying for them anyway.

If there’s good to come out of this it will be getting the freeloaders off the backs of the regular people. I almost puke every time I hear of some eejet who wrecked his Harley or snow machine and needs expensive medical care because he has no insurance.

Increases in preimums have been going on at double digit levels for 10 years or more now. Nothing to do with Obama, Bush, Clinton, or Elvis for that matter.

It’s all about how in America we demand the best of everything, a pill for everything, and for end-of-life care that costs tens of billions but doesn’t impact the outcome. All those pills that you’re supposed to ask your Doctor about don’t come for free.
