i’m looking for some help and insight. My father in-law is buying a new boat and he asked me for some help with the electronics. He’s over 65 (so a larger screen is preferred) and looking for a combo unit. He likes simple and easy operation (which eliminates my picks )… As I reviewed multiple sites online, there doesn’t seem to be a consistent answer. Any help is greatly appreciated . His current graph is a Lowrance 17 so any of the new units will be a great improvement

He probably does not need the current HD units and all their complexity and high cost,
I am very happy with my Lowrance -27C color unit. Good size screen and easy to use combo unit. You can get one on ebay or somewhere a for reasonable price.

I think that even though the Humminbirds have numerous view options

You can set the three favorite buttons to eliminate a lot of the complexity.
I have used 798 and 1198 si hd combos and pretty much just use the views on the favorite buttons.

Just put on the Low Elite 7, what a great unit. I replaced a lcx 18 with it. Its very simple to use and has a wide screen. I’ve used it for about a month and I’m very impressed.

for the money and ease of operation the lowrance elite 7 is the unit to look at. I do recommend adding a chip for better navigation options
