I’ve been thinking about compiling an electronic book that covers all the fishing locations on the Mississippi River from Prescott to Lake City. Covering times of the year, best ways to fish the area and so on.

In doing a bit of research, I found out that Navionics has done this already. It might not be detailed as far as day/night or what time of year, but it certainly covers all of the secret spots and more.

I picked up a Hot Spots map at Everts of Pool 4 and I was amazed at all of the hush hush spots that were grayed in and the info that went along with them. Cats, walleyes, White bass, Smallies and Large Mouth Bass were all covered.

So…I’m now looking to invent Bacon Flavored Coffee.

Thoroughly Brian, would yours be more thorough? I’ve heard it said that the local guys who have fished these waters know more of the places, the whens and whys. If you were to articulate all those places, baits, times of day and night you’d probably be able to fill a 250 page book. Atleast it would be a go too book for the companies like Navionics. Theres nothing like a thorough book to find things out.

    Forget the book Brian,
Bacon Flavored Coffee has to be the ticket to becoming a Kazillion aire

On a serious note, which paper maps do people prefer? The 2 best known ones I know are Navionics HotMaps and Fishing Hotspots. Since my ice fishing homebase has changed, I thought it would be a good idea to get a few maps to research the next month with some starter fishing spots marked.

    Does Navionics still make HotMaps?

Its hard to find a place to buy them online. Fishing HotSpots says all the maps are out of stock???

Does Cabelas in St Michael or Joe’s have a good selection of these maps?

    mplspug,

I really like the HotSpots Maps, they’ve helped me quite a few times. For the record, though, I haven’t used the Navionics maps.
