Those were some tough years G, 1972 was a good year won the division but the next 20 years with only one double digit winning season was tough to take. Far worse than any Vikings stretch of bad seasons.

It takes a few years to rest up after the Pack won so many superbowls and championships in the many years before that.

In Packer land, “so many” is defined as two.
You Quennie fans never were very good at math.

You nailed that one G
That was for the most part, the only part of the 70’s that I can remember.
October 22, 2013 at 2:11 pm #1201737I had to turn it off in the third quarter. Not because the Vikes were losing, but because both teams stunk so badly the paint in my den started to peel. That game was just bad. Bad, bad, bad. Neither team played anything but bad football.
The Vikings have to make multiple difficult moves in order to be anything beyond a 4 win team for the next 3-5 years. The question is will the management and the owners be able to suck it up and do the right thing?
1. Someone already said it: The Vikes need multiple players, not just a QB. The ONLY way to get the quantity and quality they need is to trade AP. Deal him and deal him now.
The thing you have to understand with a running back is that AP is one play away from being worth $0. Blow out a knee, blow out an ankle, whatever, it can all be over in one play. Deal him and deal him NOW.
All jokes aside, AP is really worth a King’s Ransom. How often does the reigning MVP come on the block? We’re talking multiple early round pics across 3-4 years, plus current players. The Vikes will have to take on some throwaway players because whoever deals for AP will need cap space, so they’ll need to dish off some chaff with the wheat. A lot of fans will be distracted by the “they traded AP for who????”
2. Fire Lesley. Obviously. You want to be first in line to secure a coach at the end of the season.
3. You may as well play your QBs in rotation and arrive at as good a decision as possible as to who stays and goes. One game, to me, isn’t enough to write off Freeman. Use the rest of the season to decide.
The Vikes need to put themselves in a position where the next draft is NOT make or break. Trying to guess which hotshot QB can make the transition to franchise QB is a fool’s bet. They need to be in a position where they can take 2-3 shots at it over multiple drafts if needed.

Cut AP…he deserves better than this

One game, to me, isn’t enough to write off Freeman.
It is for me. He might be better than he played last night, but even a better Freeman is not a franchise QB or one that can lead a team for a few years. People can make all the excuses for him they want, but he never showed signs of a guy who could once in a while deal with adversity and come up with a big play.
And I was for starting him. I was all for taking him out by halftime.
October 22, 2013 at 2:54 pm #1201745I agree Pug, I don’t quite buy the starting Freeman after two weeks thing. That’s not an excuse to miss open recievers over and over and over…Jon Gruden just kept beating it into the ground how it was too soon to start him. I didn’t expect much this year but I certainly didn’t see this coming!
We need Jacksonville to win a few games.October 22, 2013 at 3:07 pm #1201747Quote:

That has got to be how you “Queenie fans” have felt since the teams inception…..Not too many Lombardi Trophies in your cabinet!!October 22, 2013 at 3:15 pm #1201752Quote:

Ah that joke never gets new.October 22, 2013 at 3:29 pm #1201756Instead of trading AP we should bench him until we are ready to make our run in another 10 years so hes fresh and ready to roll.

Yes, and all that would matter if the Vikings HAD a franchise quarterback waiting in the wings. Which, of course, they don’t.
The Vikings aren’t looking at Freeman or anyone else as a heir to the franchise throne. They’re in “any port in a storm” mode, operating out of desperation.
It isn’t working and it’s time to forget whatever short term gains could be made in theory and turn to long term pain. Which is always even MORE difficult.
To be honest, I doubt the Vikings can do it. I don’t think the front office has enough of a football brain trust operating to be able to sell a longer term vision to Ziggy.
Keep in mind, this is the same Vikings organiztion that almost ended AP’s career by playing him full throttle trying to eek out one more win for which the handsome payback was putting the team OUT of the money picks for the best crop of QB draftees that had come along in years. No THAT, ladies and germs, is brilliant team management.
It doesn’t bode well.

Bring back Denny Green, at least he could win with recycled QBs.

October 22, 2013 at 5:57 pm #1201788and Rodgers is going to lite up the Vikings like the white house Christmas tree!!!!!!
October 22, 2013 at 6:33 pm #1201793Pug, have you heard why SD, ND and IA don’t have professional football teams? I heard that it’s because if they did, MN would want one too… My Vikings flag will probably be hanging at half mast for a while.
October 22, 2013 at 6:56 pm #1201795Lets see here…………the coach doesn’t have a contract beyond this year. He needs wins to secure a new contract extension. If you were him and YOU were able to start who you wanted, would you start
A) A quarterback who had practiced with your team for a week and had lost his last 11 NFL starts.
B)Your 3rd. year quarterback who had won zero games this year but 10 last year before getting hurt.
C) The guy who has your only win of the year.
I’m thinking the blame lays further up the flagpole them Frazier.
Gruden also mentioned that if he were coaching Freeman would be sitting the entire 2nd half. He said this at half time.
October 22, 2013 at 7:04 pm #1201801funny, no ones talking about that one handed sack allen had with an o-linmen in between.?????
October 22, 2013 at 7:05 pm #1201802Personally I felt sorry every time Freeman took the field. I felt sorry for him, his teammates and Viking fans.
At this point they might as well leave Freeman in…unless he starts winning games.

That was a very enjoyable play to see! Allen played a pretty good game.
I heard they are playing a circle defense Sunday night, no corners…October 22, 2013 at 7:46 pm #1201815I forgot about that play. That was pretty sweet. Manning kind of looked like he was thinking, “WTF”? Like being buried up to your neck in sand.
October 22, 2013 at 8:05 pm #1201825So, we probably need a new thread tomorrow. Just how many points will the Vikes lose by this weekend. Not sure the Pack has to use any starters to win this one.
