Looking into getting some good rain gear for my boy. I have Guidewear and it looks like it would break me if I bought another set. Anything close so it doesn’t break the bank?? Thanks for the help.

Lots of stuff that works out there. Cabeles has cheaper models than Guidewear. I have two of them and they work great. Gander has their own, Columbia, etc. You can get tops or bottoms way under $100 easy.

I have frog toggs, camo coat/bibs. Works great when it’s super hot in the summer. Overall would not reccomend this raingear for any other application. In downpours you’ll eventually get damp, but that’s better than sweating through a rain storm in the summer.

The rest of the year i wear HH (Helly Hanson). It’s heavy duty rubber rain gear. I got 3 years out of my first pair and bought a 2nd pair this fall. Tough stuff, amazing how many times i should have ripped a hole in these and didn’t. It’s rubber, you stay dry. I believe it’s $85 for each, the bibs and the coat.

I think the reason for mine failing after only 2-3 years was poor storage. If properly hung, it probably wouldn’t have cracked/fallen apart in areas.

I bought the HH suit again because i hate when the high priced rain gear eventually becomes less rain proof as time goes by…requiring them to be sprayed with waterproofing stuff…If i have to do that for double the price of the HH, i’ll just buy HH again.

Gander had their guide wear rain gear on sale yesterday, 30% off. Got a pair of bibs for $60.

Thanks for the info!!! Kid is 6’2″ 220 lbs. Thinking of a Christmas gift also going to Canada with us next year. These Frogg Togg stuff looks interesting. I have heard very good things about this stuff.

I have frog toggs bibs and I really like them (toadskinz I think). Keep me dry, be careful on size, they seem to run big (I’m in one size smaller than ‘normal’).

I watched Cabelas this spring and caught one of their guide wear ‘knockoffs’ for about half price (think I paid 90 bucks for it), it is very nice, bought it one size big so I can wear heavy clothing under it for insulating. +1.

Got a full set for myself on sale 2 years ago. It’s been great. I gave it a full test drive on 2 Canadian trips and it’s leak free.

    Great value.

the better quality frogg toggs are a good choice for the money. check the clearance racks at all the outdoor stores for their quality stuff. you might get lucky and find a set.

The better quality Frogg Toggs is not the same as the old cheap frogg toggs material that would rip. It is more of a polyester outside, very nice suits for the $$. Also you could check out sportsmansguide.com for their guide wear suits.
