Star Tribune said something yesterday like one of the biggest wins in recent Gopher program history. Northwestern?? Sad reflection on the program…
I enjoyed watching Mizzou (2 of my kids there) beat Georgia and Florida the last 2 weeks to go 7-0 now. My wife and I are alumni of U Minn and readily admit we have completely jumped bandwagons now…
October 20, 2013 at 4:50 pm #1201385Northwestern is supposed to be good this year. They barely lost to Ohio State. If the Gophers would have beat Iowa, this season would be looking good.
I liked the play of Phillip Nelson.
October 20, 2013 at 4:55 pm #1201386I think Ohio st is over rated like most in the big ten. I don’t think Ohio st can compete with the real elite.

I see with one win the empty seats on the goph bandwagon are starting to fill up…
Husker fan here – I expect reality to set in well before halftime next Saturday!
October 21, 2013 at 6:16 pm #1201547Shows you what the Gophs can do when they take advantage of thier opportunities. They got toatally robbed by the refs of an additional TD, so it was really a 10 point win. Sorry, lame to complain about the refs, but that pass inter call that took away the TD was a total case of a ref who doesn’t know the rules. Getting 2 defensive players to trip over each other is a pick play and it’s totally legal. The refs need to get their #hit together.
Northwestern played Ohio State and Wisconsin tough, so they aren’t a creampuff team. Yeah, so they ain’t Bama either, but so what?
Any team who lets the Gophs hang around within 10 points is playing with fire. They aren’t great, but they aren’t bad-bad like they were at the end of the Punky Brewster era either. Any team that is on the bubble had better not look past the Gophers. There’s a reason they make you actually play the games.
I don’t know what to think about Ohio State. They don’t look that convincing, but they keep winning.

October 21, 2013 at 6:48 pm #1201565As everyone here knows I’ve been a die hard Gopher fan my whole life. They are definitely looking better this year as well.
If you didn’t think beating Northwestern was big, you haven’t been paying attention to college football this year. They are 3 very close games away from being 3-0 in the B1G AND beating Ohio State.
Also, if you don’t think Ohio State is legit, they haven’t lost in 2 years… They are more legit than you think they are and their coaching is the best in the B1G.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but get back to me when you are over 50 years old.

October 21, 2013 at 9:51 pm #1201616Don’t know if I’m reading this wrong or it’s a typo but Northwestern did not play Wisconsin tough Grouse, I was there. And Northwestern looked like a team that was dead with no fight left in them, some hangover from OSU probably, which compounded by a beat down in Madison last week. They (NU) were feeling sorry for themselves after losses the previous two weeks and the high expectations coming into BIG play and it showed again against U of M. Granted they have some pieces on offense but the D of NU is pretty darn weak. Nonetheless it is a win for U of M but i’d give it a c.

This just made me chuckle a little because it reminded me if what Tim Brewster said once when they were 0-4. “We could just as easily be 4-0.”
October 21, 2013 at 10:59 pm #1201631Everyone on the Wild thinks they could just as easily be 9-0-0 too.
