All the bells and whistles make for more problems,

The last two cooking stoves I’ve had both went out before their time and its getting more and more frustrating. I’m going back to old school where everything is ignited by a gas pilot light. In my opinion all these news bells and whistles are just another thing that can go wrong, in their attempt to make our lives more simple. Any other complaints with what you’ve had and are there any good appliance repairmen out there with their suggestions, I will drive a couple hundred miles to get one that works if I have too.

    Dan,
Are you looking to buy and or have bought new or used in the past?

The stove we have now had a error code keep popping up on it. Looked it up and it said to replace the main board to the tune of $300. Now everything would still work with this error code but the beep would just go and go and go. Took the top apart, found the wire to the little beeper in there and snipped it. No more error code or beeping. That was about three years ago and the stove is still working.

Nothing seems made to last anymore. I built my house in 2000, within 10 years the refrig, water softener, furnace motor, 2 microwaves, and washer and dryer went bad. I did not buy cheap stuff. Of course, warranties had just run out, how convenient.

We have a large family and when we built the new house in 06 we ordered a resturant grade stove and oven for the kitchen. 6 burners and an oven with pilot light.
I kind of bucked my wife on it, i thought the bells and whistles version was cooler, but I have to admit there have been no problems as of yet.

Beware buying restaurant quality equipment. There is generally no insulation in the sides. Set to close to wood kitchen cabinets could be a fire hazard. In fact several of my vendors will not sell to me if I am selling to a homeowner. Also the oven doors get very hot and little kids will get burned.
Wolf and others do make a residential stove built for homes. The price is generally twice as much.

I was shopping for a stove last year and you couldn’t buy a residential grade unit without a digitally controlled oven/broiler unless you bought bottom of the line. I don’t care for bells and whistles. My ideal stove is a well built stainless model with a dial for the oven and broiler.

One thing I’ve heard is that the farther the electronics are from the heat and more protected they are the longer they last.

Sorry Dan, We have only just now in the past 2 months retired the last of our bought new appliances when we moved into our house 37 years ago.

Gave our stove to a local appliance repair/used sales dealer in late August.

Sorry not to have made an offer on here for it, my bad.

How would have you known Denny so don’t worry about it. There’s a checkout gal at the local Pharmacy/store that’s looking for one for me right now and she knows many of the people who come to the store and its an an older neighborhood where there’s quite a few older retired people that would have one, I put the bug in her ear and I know if anyone can get one she can. Still looking for one if anyone has one in their garage, shed etc.
