I don’t even know where to start. In my mind this one of the most DEPLORRABLE things I have heard in a very long time.

Families of soldiers killed in action not getting their benifits due to the govt. shutdown. Honest to god I can’t even put my anger and disgust into words. The very “human beings” that caused this debacle are relaxing at home while the plane landed carrying the brave men who gave their lives in Afghanastan this past weekend for this country.

The Fisher House charity stepped in to make things right for the families since these greedy self serving a$$h*#@s cannot put anything or anyone before their own agenda.

I understand the rules here regarding political posts and I’m sorry for that but this is so completely immoral that it demands discussion.

Young men leaving behind families and kids that will never remember their dad.

    It’s shameful and embarrasing.

My Dad was in the service for 30 yrs.

I have not. However this is not morally right. So the guys fighting for us overseas are not getting paid either?

This country is going to sh#&!

How do you live with yourself using soldiers as pawns? That’s as far as I will go out of respect of the fallen ones.

Left or Right, if you don’t see this as wrong you are a poor example of an American! Thank You to all who served and to all those who gave their lives for our freedom! I am forever indebted to you

What is also sad, is a trip through a VA Hospital… soldiers that served and survived, herded through like cattle. Don’t get me wrong, the VA does as much as they can with the funding they receive, but it should not come down to $$’s when talking about treating a veteran. I talk to quite a few that utilize the facilities in St Cloud and they all say, the Hospital does the best they can, but there is not enough staff and appointments, some wait months to get in. This is not something that happened recently because of the shutdown, this is always…

You got that right. There is a program that should have more funds appropriated to it. Veteran care isn’t an entitlement, its a responsibility.

I’ve said it for years. We need to wipe t house e slate clean and start over. Too much bs politics and finger pionting. Need to get back to the priorities and do them right. In general, we need to reevaluate govt services and provide what is needed. Not a free for all level of of entitlement.

So true Big G, whenever VA hospitals or care come up in conversation it almost always leads to some sort of comment or one-liner regarding sub-par care and treatment. These men and women deserve every resource possible to heal both mentally and physically, yet we continue to fall short…

The VA hospitals may be short of funding but the people there are amazing. My father-in-law passed away at the one in Minneapolis after a battle with cancer and everyone we dealt with there went above and beyond their duties to do everything they could for him. At the end he was suppose to be transferred to some hospice but the paperwork was convienently lost so the nurses he was comfortable with could take care of him his last days. Bad mouth the VA if you want but the men and women that work at the VA hospital in Minneapolis are some of the finest people I have ever met.

This is the greatest country in the world, without a doubt. I can’t think of anything stupider than hitting the “reset” button. We still have the best government in the world despite its many, many, many faults.

The Democrats voted the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) into law along party lines. That was their right, even if it was short-sighted. They paid for it in the subsequent elections.

The Republicans are using the country’s good faith and credit as a bargaining chip. That’s their right, even if it is short-sighted. I expect that they will pay for it in subsequent elections.

That veteran’s benefits are being frozen out is deplorable.

I don’t normally get into these disputes but this is one I feel I am compelled to respond to. First of all I think john has hit the nail flush on the head here, reset is not the answer, I think “tweaking” is more of what is needed rather than overhaul. In many respects we are at fault for electing representatives and senators which have a history of just towing the party line and not being cavalier and stepping out of line and taking a stand for what is right rather than party allegiance.

However this level of inactivity is ridiculous and appalling, this great country was founded on principles (liberty, righteousness many more) that apply to every citizen including the representatives. In my opinion our leaders have lost sight of their duty to this country and that is to be proactive and cooperative and make life BETTER for the Americans that are entrusting their voice with these people. Too much me in politics today and not nearly enough we, the only we is democrats or republicans not Americans. How do we fix it? Not sure but we can do our jobs as citizens and keep re-electing new leaders until we find one who aligns with our views, whatever they may be.

In my opinion, a real leader finds ways to resolve conflicts. Our country hasn’t had a real leader at President for many, many years.

I am not sure how we go about doing a better job of electing better leaders when during elections they lie to us with almost every word out of their mouths. And most do not do what they say they will once elected. As far as finding leaders with OUR views – Maybe the leaders are being elected by the majority of people with the same Views as those elected. Maybe there are Just not enough People out there with OUR views. I say the way the system is set up now is BROKEN and if nothing is changed this country is headed in a way BAD direction.

I can not agree more this is terrible. These are the everyday heros that allow us to do the things we do in this country. Just remember this when you vote, it’s the only way to change things.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Republicans and Democrats keep getting elected so they think they are doing something right. Vote them out maybe they would realize they have to change their ways.

Have you ever thought that maybe the people who keep electing these people in don’t have a problem with the way things are? They get free Healthcare, Free Housing, free food, and don’t have to work for any of it. But don’t worry – It’s the greatest Government and System in the world !!!!

ding ding ding. Winner. The takers now out-number and out- vote the givers. Once that happens its basically over. They will vote us into oblivion. Its going to take exceptionally strong leadership, character and integrity from government officials to turn this thing around. Lots of people are going to have to give up lots of things and you know how difficult that would be. If not done willingly then we all crash.

As the camel says on Wednesdays…….Mike, mike, mike, mike…

The world is not failing, we are just succumbing to the news media hype of an apocalypse. There is so much good going on in this country, but it is not newsworthy and makes Limbaugh and Schultz zero dollars or ratings.

This country is fine. Mistakes like this are made from time to time, but the sky is NOT falling.

Is it worse that a MIA’s family is delayed benefits vs. an active government employees family is denied income??

Both are sad, but it’s not over….

I disagree with the belief our country is fine. I fail to see how I am handing my children something better when the first thing they get to deal with is the below as we cannot seem to elect officials that do anything but what is in their best interests to get re-elected, not what is best for our country.

    United States Federal Debt
    16,966,461,000,000 Trillion

    Debt per Citizen $ 53,550.00
    Debt per Taxpayer $ 148,221.00
