Josh Freeman. Now the only question is will the Vikes be wearing their road whites or home purple in the Super Bowl.

Nice catch for the Vikings, he seems to have some issues with leadership but I think people forget how young these guys are. Getting cut and out from under the Tampa Bay coaching staff might be just what he needs. I remmemeber him smoking the Packer D a few years back, he has talent to be a #1
October 7, 2013 at 12:33 pm #1198822lol… right when I think the Vikings head office can’t get any dumber. They go and prove me wrong! Lets see how many teams decided to suck the year manzel declares for the draft. Everyone know that’s what the colts did to get Luck.

It is pretty funny to see teams intentionally throw in the towel weeks/months before the season is over. However, in the case of Luck, that is working out pretty well for the Colts!
October 7, 2013 at 12:52 pm #1198824Is what’s sad is, look how many teams passed up Russel Wilson. By far one of the better players to come out andjust because he was 6’2 or taller did get drafted until 3rd round. Lets see what the so called experts say about manzel.
October 7, 2013 at 1:25 pm #1198832Does the Viking’s wall have any open space left to throw “stuff” against it and see if it sticks?
I think we’ve found the Baby Culpepper.

The Vikes are, again, in the unenviable position of having nothing left to lose.
And, to be honest, there really isn’t anything to lose by trying Freeman. It’s a 1 year deal. He either works or he doesn’t. They’ve already lost far more on the Ponder situation, I only wish they could deal his sorry buttski to free up the cap space, but that’s not going to happen.

I believe there is a proposal in the legislature for taxpayers to pony up for a new, larger wall…

Alex Smith would have been a good move.. This is not
So it would have been better to trade a player or draft pick for Smith then hire a guy with a contract that’s over at the end of the year?
Neither has lit the world on fire.
I don’t understand, please explain.

Where were we at when Payton Manning was a free agent?
I think Payton was saying, “who are the Vikings?”.

Because:
Until he had his concussion last year he was the most efficient passer in the NFL. And through the first 4 weeks of this year he was number 2 behind Manning. Because he’s a smart qb with a pretty decent NFL arm. Because he would be a great fit with what would be a pretty damn powerfull offense which includes the best RB in the NF & some pretty darn talented wide receivers. Because we needed a guy that can do some things but yet isn’t expected to do it all. Our team would be MUCH getter with Smith behind center. FO SHO!

Ditto. All I could think of last year, when Kappernick was lighting it up, was ‘what could the vikes do to pick up smith’. Didn’t make sense the 49ers holding on to 2 championship calibur QBs… Some of you may have forgotten… the 9ers were considered almost a shoe-in for the Superbowl prior to Kap’ coming in to replace smith…
October 7, 2013 at 5:11 pm #1198897I agree with the Smith take and also not looking at Manning when he was available. The Ponder blinders that Spielman has been wearing caused us to miss out on two good oppurtunities. Having said that we have nothing to lose with the Freeman signing, one year and no draft picks.
Green Bay has had three QB’s in the last twenty plus years and we’ve had three before the midway point of the season.jeff_hubertyInactivePosts: 4941October 7, 2013 at 5:35 pm #1198907Maybe that is true but honestly he can’t hardly be worse than ponder or cassel, I think it will be an upgrade for the Vikes.
October 7, 2013 at 5:52 pm #1198920Sadly, you are right. This IS and upgrade. The kid is uber talented. Maybe some bitterness towards the Bucs will push him to another level. What’s the worst that can happen?
October 7, 2013 at 6:30 pm #1198932Again, not seeing any reason why this Freeman deal wouldn’t be worth a try.
2012 stats:
Ponder – Just short of 3000 passing yards, 18 pasing TDs
Freeman – Just over 4000 passing yards, 27 passing TDsThe Vikes gave Ponder an honest shot, but everyone knows with drafting QBs, you never know. A lot of QBs play their best in college, do well, but can’t improve to the pro level. And even if they can improve, it’s like every other position. There are a new crop of hotshot draft picks every year that are trying to improve just as fast as last year’s crop.
NFL = Not For Long

October 7, 2013 at 6:37 pm #1198935We are not talking a Nino Niederreiter situation here. We are talking flinging poo against a wall hoping it sticks and doesn’t just end up piling on the other poo that hasn’t stuck.
October 7, 2013 at 7:49 pm #11989643 Backup QB’s on one roster ( That is what all 3 of these guys are ) Backup QB’s at the best. Business as usual for the Vikings. The talent of all 3 of these QB’s put together would not = 1/2 of a Peyton Manning or Drew Brees.

Not to mention the way he handle the situation he was in last season. That shows maturity. Smith would have certainly made the Vikings a much better team!
