Pop Up Ads

In the last week, we’ve noticed a huge increase in popup ads or ads that sit to the right, left, and top of our screen while on the internet. They are so annoying that if you move the mouse, a pop up shows up next to it. About 50% of our clicks take us to a site other than what we clicked on.

The ads are also showing up on Yahoo and MSN mail as fake emails that stay pinned to the top.

I run Microsoft Security Essentials and recent scans tell me all is well.

This is really getting annoying and many of the ads are inappropriate (sexual in nature).

Right now as I type this I have an ad to the right of the screen and left showing an inappropriately dressed person.

    Any suggestions!!

    TIA! Eric

Eric, what browser are you using?

I’m running Fire Fox and Safari. Haven’t seen a pop up on this site in a way long time. I’m not running a blocker either. ??

New question. What are plug-ins and should I allow them or block them?

I believe in Yahoo email you’re talking about the top line in the INBOX, like seen here from American Express.

These I believe are placed/programmed in by Yahoo and there is no removing them since they appear in your INBOX.

If somebody knows how to remove these?, Please, Do Share!

Eric, a couple of things. Plug-in are often features. I allows cancel, then go out and look at what the plug in does. Most of the time, I won’t allow them.

I run Fire fox for about 75% of what I do online. They offer an ad-block that works really well. HOWEVER, what you described is not just a pop-up. I just had that crap on my puter not too long ago. Forgot the name of it, but it is part of the address that shown up just before the re-direct. I searched online for the removal and it was quite simple once I knew where to look on the computer for it. If you have what I had, PAIN IN THE

Still running Firefox 15 cause I don’t like the newer versions and also have it on IE8.

You are running Firefox through IE8?

I wish I could be there to help. I like troubleshooting issues, but it is impossible from here.

I just wanted to mention that IDO does NOT dish out any “Pop-Up” adds. IDO only display banner adds. The pop up adds you are seeing are from another source.

I only mention this in case there are any visitors that may be considering registering. Registering will not cause any user to begin seeing pop-up adds. Registration has many benefits!

    Randy,

If you remember the name, I need it. Pop-up ads probably isn’t the right term here. In addition to these ad (ads not by this site) there are words highlighted and underlined which make you believe there is a helpful link there. Link takes you to a mortgage lending site.

Adblocker plus has knocked down the ads(pictures) but the space is still there and words “Ads not by this site” still reside. Just no more scantily dressed girlies!!

And I’d prefer not to switch browsers as we have alot of bookmarked stuff here on Chrome.

    Keep ideas coming!!

Download and install Malwarebytes, run a full scan and it should find your adware that is giving you the popups.

    To Invader,

I would suggest upgrading to the latest version of Firefox and IE. These are upgraded for a reason, security!

The free version will work, but the paid version is well worth it.

Listen to IceNuts, you my fine stadium supporter have been infected. (if your seeing underline words on Ido.

BTW switching browsers and importing bookmarks takes just a few moments now a days. (not that I believe you need to switch).

With chrome use Super anti spyware and ad block plus. This will take care of it all. I use mcafee security.

On another note, the TRAVEL WISCONSIN ad with the colored leaves falling on mouse over is pretty darn cool…in my book.
