What, like making it to the conference final in 2003?

My praise is guarded. It was a dirty win last night and all because of Kuemper.

I am assuming that was sarcasm, but can you imagine every time a central or eastern timezone team came in they would have to start their games at 4-5 pm.

No, I’m saying why the extra half hour? Why can’t they start the game at 7.00 local time (PST)? The extra half hour is more than half a period worth of play, so the first period would be done around 9.45 CST instead of 10.15 CST as it was last night.

I watched 1 period last night and was very pleased with Keumper’s play. Despite the offense and D not doing him many favors.

Good job to the Wild for grinding out a tie. Where would be be without Nino?

Just a comment on Kuemper, I think his “stock” has been beaten down unfairly based on 1 or 2 games by people who don’t pay attention to WHY he’s the Wild’s #3.

Kuemper was the Western Hockey Assn’s player of the year in 2010-2011. He was a very highly ranked goaltender in the draft as well. So like all the young players, Kuemper needs and deserves a chance to find his game in the NHL. It’s not like we haven’t seen a few meltdown games from much more experienced goaltenders on the Wild’s roster.

He came up big last night, that’s for sure.

I am in a guarded optimism mode!! But what fun last night to watch. Willingham’s biggest strikeouts never created such a stir

Oh, I am not sure why some markets prefer to start on the half hour. It does seem kind of dumb. Maybe it has to do with logistics.

As for Kuemper, I am not worried about him at all. I originally liked Hackett more, but I like that Kuemper is a big body, yet last night he showed how athletic and quick he is.

Matt Cooke is providing nice veteran leadership with these injuries. Nino has really stepped up which is nice.

How about that Fontaine kid. He’s 7th in rookie scoring despite not getting the minutes and PP time some of those other rookies are getting.

Wild are playing good defense now. They give up a lot of shoys , but not a lot of quality shots.

Fontaine with #2 tonight! Woot woot!

He’s a hell of a find for the Wild. He can play any line, pk and pp.

Update: Cooke robbed as ref loses sight of the puck.

For once I didn’t curse the team or player.

What a gutty road trip. Buried their chances and played good defence. Goalies stepping up too.

Yeo is playing it smart with little firepower and playing a lemaire shut down style. Let them get their shots but from the outside. Boring to watch but effective.

I don’t know when it started, but they seem to be playing a diamond or triangle wedge now on the PK. It certainly isn’t a box. Anyone know?

    Jeff Penner and Mikko Lehtonen?

    Thanks Wikipedia.

Not sure why he hasn’t been a starter earlier. Even in his limited career he has had great numbers. I was a little miffed when they traded him, but we also had 3 goalie prospects coming up at the time, along with Theodore, Harding and Backstrom.

The short answer is “not much”.

They traded Anton Khudobin to the Bruins for a forward Mikko Lehtonen and a defenseman Jeff Penner. Both were cut by the Wild organization after the 2012 season. And neither is back in the NHL this season.

I can’t blame the Wild for dealing him. They had a logjam at the G position with Harding and Backs in the middle of contracts, and Hackett, Khudobin, and Kuemper coming up as well. The only deal they could make was for a goalie so they dealt him.

Khudobin was in Boston, then he was a free agenet and signed with Carolina, but there have been rumors all season that Boston wants him back.

    Ballard is struggling.

Zucker is ok. Russo said he was walking fine after the game. Sounded like it was a cut above the knee cap.

I heard on the radio broadcast the he may have asked to sit out. He hadn’t been contributing and wanted some time to regroup.

What a perfect opportunity to see your favorite team in section 108 row 20 for the low low price of $83 per seat for the low total of $166 emailed to your computer.

Anybody scoop these up yet? I can think of worst teams to see then the Senators.

They are spoken for. A good Samaritan grabbed them. I hope the Wild keep it up at home now too.

Nice job by the Wild last night. Once again, a young player steps up and carries the team. Credit to Backs as well for coming back in and shutting down the Coyotes even though he looked like a duck in a shooting gallery in the first two periods.

I cringe now every time there’s a big blast from the opponent. Who’s going to go down next after blocking a shot?

I know the players aren’t keen, but the skate guards topic has to come up. This is crazy, I thought that Zucker was gone as well. Turned out not to be a shot to the foot, but still.

Is this just bad luck recently? Or are the SuperLite skates nowdays lacking a lot of protection that the old “ski boot” type plastic skates had?

I just bought a new pair of skates so I could skate with my kids. Bloody hell. I thought it was just me, but I pulled a pair of my old hockey skates off the shelf and the new skates weigh just over half of what my old skates weighed.

Good Lord I hope that wasn’t it, although it may very well be. Yeo is not making it sound like he is calling him out. Yeo said when he comes back in he wants him to play on his natural side. I suppose it is sort of commendable to take yourself out if you feel like you aren’t contributing.

Don’t be a dick. Although they lost a little flare with me without Alfie, but they still got Karlsson and new edition Clarke MacArthur.

According to Russo, Fletch is working the phone, but he doesn’t want to give up prospects (I think we gave up or limit with Larsson and Hackett for Pommer). Russo thinks he may consider signing Jose Theodore as a backup. That probably depends on what happens with Harding.

    LOL, I miss read that.

By the way, there is a certain guy providing veteran leadership through these injuries.

Finally we agree………….Suter has stepped his game up since Parise went down. Also that Swedish kid, Neiteriter or however you spell his name is playing better. Which kid is having the best season so far….. Brodin, Fontain?

Silly, it is Cooke who has stepped up. 6 pts in the last 7 and that is not counting a goal that should have counted. He’s also got back to a little more of his agitator role.

    Nino is Swiss.

Hard to compare a forward and a defenseman.

Looking at that first period, if I didn’t already know, I would swear the Wild had no injuries. Great speed, good passing and solid in our own end.

Wild deserved better tonight. That 3rd one was a softie on Backstrom. The second one was just lucky.
